user reviews of Salutation Inn, Tynemouth

Nice enough pub, a little to light and cafe bar inside for my taste, but plenty of decent beers, a lot from Anarchy brewery. Not dog friendly inside, only in the courtyard garden.

Just underwent a big refurbishment. Six keg and five cask handles available. I was disappointed to find only two out of the five cask handles were in use when I visited on Saturday.

A couple of real ales including the excellent Byker Bitter and Mordue Workie Ticket. Gets very busy Friday/Saturday evenings and when the football is on but service isn't too bad at all. Food was good too. Worth a visit.

Usually has 2 or 3 real ales on from national and local brewers.

Seems a bit touristy which given its location is hardly surprising. Nice refuge on a very hot day. Service good and the menu looked promising but like every other pub around this part of the country finding a decent ale amongst the ice cold lager taps isn't easy. The 'Sheepdog' (4.7) was the best I could find and to be honest I've drunk better session bitters. I assume that the plethora of flags is for the footy rather than permanent decoration.
