Yes, it does err to the food side, but cracking beer, so to be rated highly… I think the accommodation (lodges built a stones throw away, something to do with pigs?) have brought more business, meaning this is a lovely old fashioned L shaped pub with lots of nooks and crannies plus airy conservatory and garden to rear… I had a pint of very well kept Wherry, and my wife had Norfolk adder Cider. There were some interesting other (stronger) real ales which I avoided because I was driving, can’t remember when the brewery, but looked good.. Barrow_Beer_Hunter - 1 May 2022 08:05 |
From our experience last year, we decided to call in again, on our way home. In my last review, I wrote, "Not a place to go if you are in a hurry". Oh my, how true that is. It was a nice evening, about 6:15ish. My wife and dog sat a table in the empty garden. I went off to the bar for some drinks. The bar was as empty as the garden - No customers or staff. I wandered about a bit, thought about serving myself, and then saw the big bell hanging at one end of the bar. I gave it a good clanging, and waited - nothing. I was actually in the bar, on my own, for about five minutes I decided that we should go on to somewhere that might want my money. On the way out, I bumped into someone who asked if they could help (The Landlady?) I told my story. She seemed unperturbed and said she would get someone to serve me. I told her she should be doing it herself, but not to bother. From this incident, I have reduced my rating from 7 to 1. Needless to say, we won't bother again. Phantom_Pigeon - 27 Jun 2012 09:51 |
This is not a pub. It is a restaurant that serves beer. In this case, a combination that works very well. The food is priced, and served, as a restaurant, not as a pub. However, it is cooked to order, and is well worth the wait. I had a pint of the locally brewed Newtons bitter - Very nice indeed. Not a place to go if you are in a hurry.
