This once rowdy pub has changed a lot over the past year. It is now a place where i am happy to take the family or drink with friends on a weekend night, It is a young crowd on weekends but they all behave themselves which is a credit to the management. Service and food quality has also improved (although service can still be a bit slow at the bar at times but as one manager pointed out to me once that just like everyone else they can not afford the full staff set up they would like). This has to be the bets pub for atmosphere in rayleigh and the managers continue to try and entertain there customers with live music and talent shows and quizs. Its reputation is changing from a rowdy bar in to a refreshing family pub. mickybrown64 - 9 Feb 2010 16:02 |
A plasticky, soulless chain pub that's like a Wetherspoons without the good bits. The hand pumped Greene King IPA was off when we walked in (7pm on Friday) and the Speckled Hen lasted all of three pulls on the handle before the barman admitted that had gone as well. The gassed up IPA he offered as a substitute was about as good as you'd expect. Running out of decent beer before the weekend has properly started is NOT a good sign. It's got far too many fruit machines and trivia quizzes for comfort and the food looks like it's as artificial as the beer. Basically it's a machine for separating the punter from his money as fast as possible Royed - 19 Sep 2009 20:12 |
To be honest bit reluctant to say this because I dont want everyone to come to this pub, which probably tells me how much I enjoy going there, forget the boring stuff about being served. I have been drinking now for over 10 years this pub has been total transformed in the last 18 months by Bobby and everyone whos worked with him has done a fantasic job. To be honest the locals can be a bit rowdy but to be honest all the locals want to do is have some fun and enjoy there night, if you want a quite pub go somewhere else if you want meet a lot of nice people go to this pub, great staff make a pub this is how it should be done conneelyboy - 8 Dec 2008 01:49 |
massive pub, on first impressions its clean recently decorated and new management, barstaff (2) were pleasant but slow, kept dissappearing out the back (dont know what for). I noticed no drip trays, asked why and was told too much wastage, management directive!!!! she could then only pour 1 pint at a time, hence very slow service, then the regulars started to appear, my god, loud, swearing, some looked like they didnt need anymore to drink, we left as the 'door staff' arrived. Ok for lunch times but a DEFINITE no in the evening. beertaster59 - 24 Aug 2008 08:25 |
