Dined at the Kingsdon Inn last night - Fantastic food served by charming friendly staff in this picture post card Inn pleasantly furnished . Great beer, a few pints of 'Gun Dog' went down a treat and the dish of River Exe Mussels is to die for. Somergourmet - 2 Jul 2013 11:57 |
This is simply a great country pub with the added benefit of really superb food at fair prices. The chef works his socks off to provide top class dishes that keep people coming back for more and the word is starting to spread. With trade rising I suggest you go there on a quieter day of the week so you can savour the surroundings without the weekend crowd. Cosy and romantic, a great place to take someone special. Kingsdon is a lovely village to walk around, very historic and interesting houses to look at and if you have young kids the playground is opposite the pub. just a mile from National Trust Lytes Cary too. A beautifully restored pub, following the horrendous fire which razed it to the ground. Always my favourite venue pre-fire, and certainly not disappointed post-fire. A fantastic menu catering for all tastes, and always a pleasant surprise when you get the bill. Cheerful staff always willing to please diners. Chef always willing to alter a dish if you do not like a component (like a spicy sauce) and he knows just how to cook a "blue" steak. Make sure you book well in advance if you want to celebrate a special day to avoid disappointment. Every meal is a tasty delight. A clean venue that has a cosy atmosphere. Outside tables for a hot summer day or evening. Well worth a visit, and well behaved dogs are welcome. Riccicle - 2 May 2012 21:53 |
A delightful couple have taken over this pub. He is an experienced head chef from a smart Somerset hotel. She is Italian. My lunch companion and I were each given a complimentary glass of mulled wine. The pub has been done up inside in excellent taste. The menu had plenty of choice and included today's specials. I ate delicious venison casserole complete with a range of vegetables. My friend ate pheasant which she also found to be very good. Although we live 30 minutes to an hour away we are already planning a visit in January. Horniman - 19 Dec 2011 22:54 |
Called in for a quick pint - the wife is organising a girls night out there in the new year. Very much food oriented - fully booked on a Wednesday can't be bad! Food looked OK and reasonably priced - fairly simple menu and the good news is you can now book in advance! Beer expensive - Butcombe 3.30 - and I had to ask for it to be topped up! Wine not too bad. Will report after wife's visit. martyngs - 29 Dec 2010 22:00 |
