I go hear sometimes as it feels really old. the scotland land lady is a reel legend and can often be seen shouting things like "och i the noo" etc. It remains to be seen if this pub will ever last the forthcoming hay and beans festival but one can only hope

We went to the Kings Head a year ago shortly after they reopened after the floods. It was excellent.

We went back last weekend. Beer still good four on tap. All very well kept.

The menu seemed a bit dumbed down but the food was good apart from one disgusting tasting ice-cream, made from parsnip. Also I definitely do not like a standing 10% service charge.

Friendly staff, though they should pay a little more attention to what was ordered. Brought out two identical dishes, one rare one medium. Waitress did not know which was which. Quite apparent once I cut in to them.

Rating, only a 6, as I really do not like an imposed service charge.

Basically, I popped in lunch time for a beer (Yeovil Ales - Star Gazer, all good) and I thought the place was superb. The very nice Scottish landlady was very pleasant. I will be going back.

You would think it a hotel from the outside but its not. Its a massive highly spruced up pub. Apparently owned by local families its a local for a posh area. If your happy paying the 8-14 type average for a main course the food is very good, beer selection and taste more than you could ask for. Friendly if somewhat slow service - solid top end style large and airy pub. No carpets et al and not too pine wood ruined either given the hotel style feel - recommended. Loads better for food than anywhere you will find in central winchester for example

The pub has been the subject of a three month renovation and while it has gone upmarket, the traditional feel of the building has been retained. There are 5 beers on the handles, my Bowman ales were superb. Food and service is excellent although main courses have risen in price commensurate with the refurb. Somewhere to go for that special day/night out, there is also a function room in what was the old skittle alley.
