There was just enough time for one more Somerset pub. So we headed here after getting off the steam railway. It's a locals pub with one main room, divided into different sections. Locals were watching a Championship game. We settled in a corner waiting to order dinner. Ales were Exmoor Gold, Cotleigh Tawny Bitter & Goffs Black Horse & Tournament. The Black Horse was very nice. There is a small garden and car park at the rear. Handy if visiting the railway. Although I noticed that the Quantock Brewery also has premises next to the station that had been open for ale consumption earlier in the day. blue_scrumpy - 3 May 2016 20:10 |
This pub is about 5 miles from my home & was advertising (outside the pub & online) a quiz jackpot prize of 892. So I raised a team of friends & we got a taxi there, only to be met with as hostile a "welcome" as any I can remember. As we approached the bar the landlord said it was a pity people only came in when there was a big prize, then walked away from us The locals (most of them) were equally unfriendly & commented about us repeatedly. In fact the quiz was a bit of a shambles but we were shocked by the generally unpleasant atmosphere. We almost left early The premises of the pub are pleasant and the beer was fine, but I won't be going back. The pub is apparently also trying to lose its skittles team (who aren't locals either) Not a good night SpursDiver - 25 Aug 2012 00:42 |
Another run of the mill boozer that we visited today as part of the Somerset CAMRA pub trail. Beers were fine but nothing exceptional. Staff seem to prefer serving the locals (who all seemed related to each other and the staff) than other drinkers. cellarbuoy - 6 May 2012 18:30 |
YoYo, this is now one of 2 pubs in the village and of the greatest interest to the ale drinker. They always have 4 on the go, 2 from Cotleigh plus 2 others from local breweries. yesterday the Cotligh Nutcracker and Quantock Will's Neck were very good. Paris_Hilton - 23 May 2011 15:54 |
