This pub is now owned by the same people as the Horse and Farrier, just across the road. The Salutation seems to be more for the Locals, walkers and climbers. Also seems to have a better atmosphere than the Farrier. When we went there was a selection of about four proper beers, and not a Jennings in sight. The Theakstons was in excellent condition. We didn't eat here, but the food looked very good. The rooms are very comfortable, but you have to go across the road to the Farrier for breakfast. OK if it isn't raining. This Pub is much better - smaller & friendlier than the oager across the road. Take as you find and mr grumpy certainly did not like our family with bikes sat in his beer garden yet the Salutation more than happy to feed and quench our thirst.Darren Halmshaw. anonymous - 5 Nov 2007 14:23 |
I happened to read this review after contributing my genuine review of the Horse and Farrier and to be honest I smell a rat when phrases such as "much friendlier than the Horse & Farrier" are used. I have no connection with the "Horse & Farrier", and I suggest that walkers / drinkers make their own minds up if they happen to be going through the lovely village of Threlkeld instead of passing it at 60 mph on the A66. The Salutation Inn is a fine old coaching inn on the main street of the picture-postcard village of Threlkeld, easy to find on the A66 east of Keswick. Behind the smart frontage, painted cream with black details for doors and windows, ancient beams testify to the inn's great age, and an open fire, horse brasses and items of local history add to the appeal. The inn has built up a long-standing reputation for hospitality and the excellence of its food, and that reputation is being enhanced still further by the current owners John and Margaret, who loves the inn and the region and has a genuinely warm salutation for all his customers. Real ales and ciders satisfy thirsts, and there's a good selection of wines to enjoy with the splendid, unpretentious home cooking. Lunch is served from 12 to 2, dinner from 6 to 9 every day, and one of the great favourites at any time is the super steak, mushroom and ale pie.Best of all a NO SMOKING AREA and much friendlier than Horse & Farrier. Superb luch time call during lakeland walk. Darren Halmshaw - [email protected] - 15 Mar 2006 17:49 |
