I arrived at this pub shortly after what I thought was opening at midday on Sunday. But the place was already heaving with the two overflow car parks in use. The one is shared with a petanque court. There appeared to be some kind of function on, with a fair few elderly people present. Younger people appeared to be quite well-heeled. The pub occupies a lovely building in an equally lovely Rutland village. The interior has multiple rooms, some set out for diners. But I chose to sit outside in the garden. Ales were Greene King IPA, Nene Valley Blonde Session & Grainstore Summer Ale. Prices were on the steep side. blue_scrumpy - 14 Aug 2017 19:41 |
4 of us went to this pub to ask if they could help us with a late lunch - we arrived 2:25 (having had a puncture) but they stopped serving at 2. We would have been happy with pretty much anything and hoped we might be lucky enough to get a very simple sandwich to keep us going... a bread roll and some butter would have been nice. The man behind the bar could not have been more unfriendly and seemed to take great delight in telling us they couldn't offer anything and sarcastically told me I wasn't doing very well. I have every respect for a business that does not wish to open up its kitchen specially for late-comers but their attitude was appalling and besides, they were still taking orders for pudding from other tables 20 minutes after we arrived. Went for a meal with my wife recently. I have to say, WOW, what a great place this is! The Old White Hart is largely set up for food but does have a traditional bar area as well as a very pleasant garden. Old fashioned and full of genuine charm, has separate restaurant areas upstairs and other rooms away from the bar. The food is of outstanding quality and all freshly cooked, it is not cheap but not ridiculously expensive either. Seems to get quite busy at the weekend especially Sat night but has a great asmosphere. The only downside is that the beer could have been better kept. I had Grainstore Triple B and Kelham Island Pale Rider, both of which were cloudy. However this didn't affect the taste at all and certainly didn't stop me from drinking plenty of it! (on another day the beer might be better). A good time was enjoyed and I would certainly recommend The Old White Hart. BeerMonster040 - 21 Jun 2011 13:27 |
One of the finest pubs I have ever visited (and only been twice, sniff, sniff). Beautiful setting in the heart of the small village, across from the church. The building itself is of an age, and very nice inside. They have a fantastic restaurant, serving delicious food, good beers and wines, a beautiful garden to sit in during the good weather and I think they do rooms. You must visit this pub if you get the chance!! alistair_cross - 12 Jan 2006 15:41 |
