3.80 for a pint of local bitter!! That's 40-50p more than even the riverside pubs! You must be joking. Do your pocket a favour and go to the Bell instead. thefirkintaster - 15 Aug 2012 06:33 |
Went there this weekend on Saturday by accident, and thought the food was throughly excellent. Excellent beer as well, had a pint of Black Horse and 6X, both of which were plesent. As for the food prices, We had a two course meal for two, and spent just under 40. Previous review was in 2007 so not sure if it's changed hands, but certatinly very good value for money. I recently ate at The Black Horse in Standlake Village and very nice it was too. I very much enjoyed my Crab and Smoked Salmon Parcel complete with a good salad selection, served as my starter. I sat contentedly in the pretty bay window of the ancient oak beamed main bar, complete with log fire, whilst I watched a multitude of less than comfortable fellow diners who had been allocated seating, on rows of communal unpadded wooden bench seats, situated in one of two heated temporary marquee structures that had been squeezed into the pub garden the moral of the story, book well in advance, or arrive very early indeed! When my main course of scampi and chips (once again with an overdose of curly salad leaves) was served (in due course), I was not disappointed with either the quality, or the quantity, but then again, I was not overwhelmed either. Having bought another round of drinks for myself and my two friends whom I had earlier invited to join me for dinner, I alone set about demolishing a chocolate based dessert of only mediocre, but well defrosted, quality. With a final bill totalling 85 pounds for three persons, two of whom ordered only the first two courses, and with just three everyday drinks a piece, I left the pub feeling satisfied, but . . . . . Ooh! Ouch! Very pretty village pub, serves a good Sunday Carvery selection too, better than average food, very clean, very well managed by professionals, excellent but . . . . . . lousy outside toilets only, and, as for the prices . . . . . . . Ooh! Ouch! All the best, Frankie Lee-Darling anonymous - 30 May 2007 20:58 |
