Marston's pub in a nice village setting, albeit very close to the busy A63. Inside there were plenty of people enjoying meals. We sat outside enjoying the last of the day's rays of sunshine. But it was getting decidedly chilly. Ales were all from the Marston's stable - Sunbeam, Boon Doggle, Forty Niner & Hobgoblin Gold. This was far better than the new Marston's identikit pub called the Sandpiper just down the road in Melton which is not listed on here. We also moved on to the Hase in Hessle and the Beech Tree in Kirk Ella. Neither are listed on here. But I actually rated the former as my favourite pub of the day. blue_scrumpy - 26 Mar 2018 21:34 |
They do some great beers in here, but they swap em too often. Food is a bit dull, but this is a chain pub and they get a new manager every few months. RustyBoots - 29 Nov 2011 13:29 |
Furniture now recovered so the interior looks much better. Restaurant still very good quality, and prices have not gone up as much as other nearby hostelries, so my rating goes up a point! RB1066 - 27 May 2011 11:39 |
Very old coaching in with a lot of history (Dick Turpin was arrested here). Always has 2 or 3 well kept real ales on offer, and has a good restaurant with an excellent menu and range of wines. It was renovated a few years ago so is now a mixture of old beams and industrial chic which somehow seems to work. The upholstery on some of the sofas looks a bit tatty now (why use leathercloth rather than leather - the price is not much different?) Well worth a trip out, and close to some good country walks if you're that way inclined. RB1066 - 17 Dec 2010 14:56 |
Stayed here again on our annual visit to the area. Lovely rooms, friendly helpful staff, good food too. David & Linda have got it well sown up when it comes to professional management of an hotel. LadyLiz - 20 Jan 2010 21:07 |
