| A good pub, pleasant ambience and would suit if you wanted to eat or just a drink. A pleasant garden area out back. I stopped for a Sunday lunch a few weeks back and had a very good meal. Beef perfectly cooked and good service. Fully recommended. MrBlue - 1 Oct 2013 14:18 |

| A cosy, country pub right in the centre of the village. Many years ago it was a typical local�s pub, then had a gastropub makeover and was very food orientated. Now it seems to have struck about the right balance between drinking and dining. It�s an attractive place, with exposed stone walls in many places, wooden flooring with some large rugs around, a long bar, a large fireplace with a massive wooden mantelpiece and a small courtyard garden. Staff were friendly and helpful. There was a large plasma in the lounge bar that seemed a bit out of place. It�s fine in a bar if there�s a separate lounge, but this pub really has just a lounge and a restaurant. Many people will be eating in the lounge, so having a large plasma above your head is not quite the right atmosphere. It was off when we arrived and sat down for our meal, but was later turned on and half a dozen blokes were dotted around watching the rugby which spoilt the ambience somewhat. There also appears to be a projector and a pull down screen, although thankfully they didn�t put that on. There�s quite a limited choice of bar food, only about half a dozen mains, and some unusual dishes. There were pub classics like burger and haddock & chips, but also things like salmon with a vanilla sauce. Prices are perhaps a little on the high side for bar food at around �9/�10 for a main course, but to be fair they were doing a two courses for �12.50 deal. | Nice food, but poor service. Had to wait 20 minutes after being seated before even being asked if we wanted a drink. Had to wait a further 10 mins to see the menu, as there is only one, on a chalk board, which goes from table to table. Try having more than one chalk board, so people aren't waiting!! Some people actually like to decide on their wine once they know what they are going to eat. Once we actually recieved our food, it was quite tasty, but just completed let down the entire evening by the service. | A Fuller's owned pub i do believe. They had Pride,ESB,and Butcombe Bitter on when visited. Opted 4 the butcombe which was reasonably well kept,bit of a snobby clientele though sadly, 6/10 fat_beer_badger - 15 Feb 2009 17:56 |
