| Bank holiday Monday 6th April 2015. This can be a very popular pub, it's in a great location. Not so good this time, barmaid had to be reminded twice to give me a full pint, and didn't bother telling me how much the round was, just took the money. The Butcombe tasted more like Doom Bar. | visited on easter sunday 31march13 had recently been decorated..barman was welcoming , had draught cider and lovely meal of steak and kidney pie , chips and mushy peas.....he agreed to give me mushy peas instead of garden peas...also had a lovely treacle sponge with ice cream instead of the advertised cream ....often u get a small portioned pie dish but this was a big homemade scoop and steak and kidney was so so tasty...ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS....and then we sat outside with a few drinks as there is a nice suntrap just by the door....what a lovely sunday. | A traditional country pub located at the end of a small row of terraced stone cottages, and near to the famous Stanton Drew stone circle (similar to Stonehenge, but maybe a bit smaller). Inside it�s divided in to two rooms. There�s a smaller room off to the left with a few tables and chairs and plenty of pictures on the walls as well as some painted wood panelling lower down. This could well be used for dining, although the pub doesn�t appear to concentrate on food. On a recent Sunday lunchtime visit, there were one or two people eating, but it was mostly friendly locals having a pint at the bar and groups of walkers stopping by for refreshment. I didn�t inspect the menu, but there was a small board with a couple of specials chalked up at around the �7 - �8 mark. The main bar area is pleasant enough, although it could perhaps do with a new carpet. Walls are a mixture of whitewashed paint and some exposed stone walls with a selection of pictures and mirrors. The bar counter is at the back, and there was a log fire roaring away. To the right is a smaller bar area with somewhat less ambience, although there was a darts board, trophy cabinet and a plasma showing the football. There is also a beer garden for use in the warmer weather. Beers on tap were Doom Bar and Butcombe. Ciders were Thatcher�s Gold and Ashton Press. Blackthorn - 9 Jan 2012 20:09 |
| Had a great day visiting the stones at Stanton Drew, including the stones in the garden of this beautiful untouched pub. We (13 of us) spent a few hours in the druids arms on a Saturday afternoon. The owner, a very friendly handsome yorkshire man made our visit very pleasurable. Food was very tasty and well liked by all. The pubs garden is a lovely relaxing place to sit, chickens geese and ducks all share the garden with the magical stones. Looking forward to going back.. pagangirls - 17 Aug 2009 20:49 |
| Very old world pub,run by a Nottingham/Rotherham Lass and, equally nice Barmaid.Made very welcome and,served with a smile...Liked the old photo,s of the pub,going back in time..Nice pint of Butcombe.The meal was a fair sized portion and, very tasty indeed.Four different meals and, all received good comments..as did the varied drinks.I shall be going back,to try the Lamb shank,yes i know these are pre-done but, the lengthy cooking time being required ,this is acceptable...Nice looking Omlettes also..A place unspoilt by time and progress....... james55westhead - 18 Apr 2009 16:11 |
