This is an old fashioned pub and I don't mean beams and thatched roofs, I mean the 'grannies' art on the walls and the nice quiet atmosphere. I'm 40+ and I feel young in here. It's almost like the pub in that telly programme 'Heartbeat'. And this gem of a pub is great because of this. It has a small bar area with the remaining two thirds given over to tables for meals . The food in here is excellent and priced well. You get loads. Some of the specials are pricey but this pub seems to have a very gifted chef/kitchen and the food is well worth the cost. Me and my missus love this place for its lack of pretention. It's a pub that does great food. Simple as that. BLACKTHORN.BRISTOL - 29 May 2010 22:42 |
When will this pub drag itself into the 21st century? It seems to be in a time warp, you almost expect prawn coctail and chicken in a basket to be on the menu! Beer is usually always OK, just never that little bit better to say you've had a great pint. Beer is always Butcombe or Courage Best, nice enough but why not push the envelope a bit, try a few different ones or even a small beer festival - buy a few mini casks (only 5 ltr!) from various local brewers and open them as required - not too much to waste? Atmosphere is also a bit lacking due to high ceiling in the pub and the slightly older clientle (even older than me..), at least it is still open and I guess it always will be. Lets just be thankful for that these days. pedalandapint - 31 Mar 2009 20:14 |
