My friend and I have been coming here for several months having abandoned another pub near-by. He was familiar with this boozer but it was my first visit and I was not disappointed. The bar staff are friendly and there is a variety of beer on offer, though not a huge selection, enough for me. We were there last night and both tried "Wainwright" by London Pride - a pale ale that was very good. There is a crowd of locals who all know each other, including Alfie the dog, but we were not treated like strangers and made to feel welcome. I think the landlady's name was Susan, and she was friendly without being nosey or over-bearing: the perfect mix. We shall definitely be going back there. davel_cats - 22 Jun 2016 13:27 |
A traditional old corner pub with nice people two bars, lounge and public. A refreshing change to all the others. No food but it's a nice pub to while away an evening. Bar billiards table, karaoke last Saturday each month and still the not too serious quiz nite weds and crib team. Pound7 - 14 Jun 2014 22:39 |

Additional information.... Live music is now an attraction, perhaps once a month. Among the performers have been local rock band Vulcan (as in bomber, not Star Trek!), and we eagerly await the arrival of another local band, Magenta. Meanwhile there has been a performance by a young lad singing Buble and Frank Sinatra songs (not my cup of tea, but the old folks say he's excellent and he's a nice lad with a great friendly unprecocious attitude). Blubber boy describes the pub as "spit and sawdust" which is perhaps a bit mean. It was redecorated in 2011, and despite being described as a wine bar by some locals (dried flowers in a public bar???) retains a wooden floor in the public bar and a carpet in the lounge. The whole pub is clean, the public bar scruffy enough for a workman not to feel embarrassed in their work clothes, the lounge bar smart enough to take your wife into, read a newspaper or one of the books available in the free book exchange, surf the web on the free Wi-Fi or just play the quiz machine. ninjadrinker - 5 Jul 2011 12:16 |
A friendly pub with atmosphere. Not as rough as it appears. Two bars, one lounge and one public. Quiz night on a wednesday (very light hearted). No food is provided, one real ale (London pride), bar billiards table, juke box and a quiz machine as well as the usual one-armed bandits. Annually visited by the King John's Morris dancers (if you like that sort of thing) and has karaoke on the last saturday of every month. Dogs are welcome. The pub aslo has a dart board and possibly the worse dart's team in Southampton (see wooden spoon behind the bar for evidence). Also one of the best crib teams in Southampton (see trophies in lounge bar). ninjadrinker - 20 Jun 2011 16:26 |
