Sorry - the 1.10.15 - struggling with the cider induced headache! waliser - 2 Oct 2015 09:28 |
The pub is alive and well. I was there on Thursday 2.10.15. There was some confusion as the opening times board was incorrect, so people sometimes turned up when it was closed. A truly old fashioned, traditional pub, selling real Taunton traditional cider. waliser - 2 Oct 2015 09:19 |
Is it still open? I haven't been since watching the Euro 2012 match between England and France. Everyone stood to attention and sang the national anthem before the game - except me, as I'm Welsh! I thought I was going to be lynched, but I explained why I wouldn't sing it, and they were fine - took the P unmercilessly, but were friendly. waliser - 3 Feb 2014 13:47 |
A tiny, back street boozer located just off the main shopping area of Bedminster Parade. Its a small single room pub, with barely enough room to swing the proverbial cat. Its a bit rough and ready, and probably hasnt changed in decades. In fact theres still a very ancient looking one armed bandit machine in one corner, although unfortunately this didnt seem to be working. Theres three or four tables and some rather threadbare bench seating around the perimeter. A digital jukebox and a LCD TV are the only concessions to modernity. Theres a few photos dotted around the wall and the pub certainly had a few characters in whod probably had one pint too many of the Cheddar Valley, but they all seemed friendly enough. It was quite quiet on a recent Tuesday evening, in fact when we left at about 8:30 there was nobody left in the pub although there were a few punters in the outside courtyard (or should that be the dilapidated garage?). Foods probably not a big thing here, but there were a few pub classics such as Spag Bol, Chilli, Lasagne, Curry, etc. chalked up on a board next to the bar, and these were all priced at around the 1.50 mark which seems exceptionally reasonable. No beers on tap unless you count John Smiths Extra Smooth. Good choice of ciders though, with Blackthorn, Natch, Taunton Traditional and Cheddar Valley. Drink prices seemed very reasonable, with the CV being just 2 a pint. Blackthorn - 27 Oct 2010 09:55 |
Unique one bar traditional pub selling mainly rough cider. Lots of characters. Customers oftem go from here to the Barley Mow, another unique pub, on the corner. Recommended. schaf - 23 Jun 2010 15:37 |
