| Disappointing visit food wise though couldn't fault the cider. Several meals are hugely overpriced, who'd expect to pay more than a tenner for macaroni cheese? | We decided to try somewhere new for Sunday lunch and a pint so booked a table at the Jack and Jill Inn after reading several promising reviews. Jeez, were we disappointed. One roast lamb and one pie and chips both over �10. I would value these meals at �4.99 - �5.99 - there was no real effort and it just looked basic with not enough of anything. Naturally I was looking forward to a good pint but soon discovered they only had Adnams and something weird which didn't taste good at all. To top it off we were seated in a 'restaurant area' and left the Jack and Jill smelling of the kitchens. | This is the place to go if you want a proper pie. None of that casserole with a bit of puff pastry perched on the top but a proper double crust. I had a couple of baked mackerel washed down with Westons organic cider, we'll be back. And if you go to the bungalow behind the pub in New Way Lane you can buy a stylish bird table for a tenner from an old boy who makes them. c_and_j - 11 Nov 2011 23:17 |
| A very dissapointing time for our local pub. Food ok, but waited 1 hour 35minutes, after being told it wouldn't be more than an hour. Gents toilets "Out of Order" Garden in need of an update. | This is a very mixed review because some aspects of this pub are great and others not so great. Was here for a funeral of a very close friend. Travelling 350 miles we stayed in the "Ensuite Accommodation" which has been recently refurbished according to their website. Well I think the refurbishment took place just before the advent of the internet because it was damp, shoddy and very dirty. They knew we were visiting 5 days prior to our arrival and so you'd think they'd make sure the room was warm on arrival. We arrived at 2pm and it took a good 8 hours to warm the room. We put the oil filled radiator on full and pulled back the bed clothes to air them off as they were cold and moist. The shower head was held onto the pole with string, the cold tap didn't stop running and the windows were filthy (on the inside) with mould and dirt from the damp in the room. I agree it's out of season but they knew almost a week in advance about our arrival. The good side was the bar, the food was probably the very best pub food I have ever tasted, on the pricey side yes but delicious and with hearty portions. Wine list pricey but good quality wines, not 2.99 supermarket wines hiked up to a tenner. Garden seen better days but it is out of season. Very little mobile signal. Broadband dongles do not work here if you need to use your laptop when visiting or staying. Pub could do with adding some free wifi, especially for overnight guests. jazmincleo - 10 Dec 2009 09:59 |
