As the last update was now 2 years ago, thought I would post something. I admit I am a regular at the pub - it is 3 minutes walk from my house and mainly go to watch Football on the Sky there, however, if I didn't like it then I would go a bit further into Oundle to The Ship to watch Sky there. The landlord and landlady are a lovely couple and have always made me feel welcome. I enjoy hanging out there and have made good friends with plenty of the locals. Often come in to play Skittles on the table on Thursday nights. Only problem is the beer is now quite expensive, but the same can be said for The Ship - it is largely because we are in tough times economically and for The George, they are far out from town, so, I guess have to to make ends meet. Generally a lovely place though imo. PoshSam - 8 Jun 2011 18:25 |
Visited on a Thursday lunch time for something to eat. Sat out in the sunshine on the beautiful decking area. My wife had the special 2 course for 10, the landlord advised us that they would not be very large portions. My wife's pate starter arrived and her comment was "if that's a small portion I don't want to see a large one". She had the steak pie which she really liked, it might have been a smaller portion but it was packed with meat and the pastry was lovely. My wife eat both courses and said that the portion size was just right as she could not eat anymore. I had a fishermans pie which was excellent, I am not a keen fish person but I really liked it. I had a pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord, I had such a relaxing time and enjoyed myself so much that I had to have another pint. Recommended P.S. I will be taking my family back some Friday for the 5 home made fish, chips and mushy peas, I will post a reply to let you know how we get on arealoundleperson - 15 Jun 2009 14:04 |
Clearly all the food here is straight from the freezer. Deep fried "Roast" potatoes & mouldy cauliflower cheese. The landlady is always drunk, regardless of the time of day. A real embarrassment and a real shame. This pub could be a very nice, country pub, although, it has a long way to go. secretdrinker02008 - 24 Dec 2008 10:19 |
Remembered this pub as a warm, local sortof place - new owners have swished it up - added a dining hall and tacky plastic life size figurines all over the place. THe games hall side attracts the most dubious of patrons and the bar staff are surly at best. Uninviting - walk into town for your pint instead. anonymous - 12 Jul 2007 13:22 |
