The Crown was my penultimate pub on Wednesday afternoon in Staffordshire. This pub is situated fairly high up overlooking the town of Stafford. The front bar is fairly small and narrow, but was where all the locals were congregated. At least I guess they were local. But none were talking. Ales were Wye Valley HPA, Bass, Brains The Rev James & Holdens Black Country Bitter. Nice enough pub. But doesn't open until 4pm during the week though. blue_scrumpy - 22 Apr 2016 22:02 |
Started drinking here on Sundays last summer when walking the dogs. Four of us now call in regularly. Very friendly staff and regulars make you feel welcome. Lovely, cosy atmosphere; good selection of beers and guest ales to tempt. Great place to chill with a cheeky beer and a bag of scratchings. christmas Eve do was bostin'. gas - 24 Jan 2011 20:56 |
Miles better now the new guys have settled in. The last time I called in under the old regime it was dirty, the toilets smelled and they only had cans of Carling behind the bar. Much cleaner, brighter and very friendly staff. Good food to be had on Friday & Saturday evenings and a proper Sunday roast dinner available Sunday lunchtimes. Real fire in the bar too. Re-opened last week with new Management and is much better than before. They've come from a pub near Lichfield called The Malt Shovel. I've been there also and its a lovely pub with amazing food - which i hear they are starting at The Crown in January. They really seem the right sort of people to get it back to how it used to be years ago. Absolutely lovely traditional pub, friendly staff and a quality pint, what more do you want! Can't wait to sample their mulled wine and mince pies by the fire near Christmas! Lagerl - 23 Nov 2009 13:57 |
Used to be a good pub, now has a manager so not as motivated as previous licencee. Often does not have full compliment of beers. Many ex regulars are no longer to be seen, previous lively 'pubby' atmosphere has definitely disappeared. SPRINT - 11 Dec 2008 15:26 |
