The landlord was eccentric (but friendly enough) when I visited in 2010... Not sure he still owns it though.

This had been on my list of pubs to visit for a number of years and we finally managed a trip ot two here in the autumn. A very attractive looking pub just on the borders of the village with a large car park. A good selection of ales, some local to the area. Very friendly service from the young staff makes you feel really welcome. The pub itself is split into various rooms which makes it quite intimate.
We ate on both occasions which, in my opinion, was quite expensive for what it was. The first time they still had a sunday roast (very pleased to have this bearing in mind it was around 6pm). Despite advertising that they had a new chef the food was all pretty average and nothing special - not enough to make you want to go back just for this.
This place excels in it's beers which is what this website is all about. A lovely place to while away a few hours in summer. When I last passed here on a sunday in November there was a sign outside saying "Closed - sorry". Hopefully that was a blip and we are back up and running

This is a good traditional local pub, it has an extremely varied and tasty pub menu, the food is excellent. It has a good atmosphere and Alan and Lorraine are extremely welcoming hosts. As for the Dog Walker - what rubbish!

Good pub quiz on a Sunday night 8:30 start, lots of fun and laughter.

Thanks Alan and Lorraine for making our local pub a fantastic place to visit.

Are you sure you have the right pub thedogwalker? Alan is always friendly and welcoming to all customers.

We managed to get to the last day of the mini beer festival yesterday. There were still 5 beers left in the outside beer festival area when we arrived; Oakham Inferno, Dark Star Hophead, Vale Gravitas, Hopback Spring Zing and a Cottage beer that I cannot remember. All the beer in the beer festival was a reasonable 2.60 a pint. Wolf brewery helped out by providing the cooling for the beer festival and also provided four barrels. All the Wolf beer had unfortunately been drunk earlier in the beer festival. In the pub on hand pump was G/K IPA, Adnams Bitter and Shalford Stonely Bitter.
