6 of us had a meal at the Angel recently and this is just my review as the others all had a lot better food and more of it than me. However we all agreed that the service was really slow. I ordered scallops and when they finally arrived there were only 3 tiny overcooked gritty scallops on the plate, one was just like gristle and I couldn't even chew it, My main course was salmon which I was really looking forward to, however compared with my fellow diners, my portion was minuscule and the salmon was overcooked and really dry. I must admit that the rest of my party did enjoy their meals I was just unlucky in my choices but not being a meat eater there was little else to choose from. I won't be returning here as it was really disappointing. MML - 1 Apr 2012 09:15 |
We only stopped for a quick pint on our way home from the beach, but we were favourably impressed. We couldn't make up our minds between the beers on offer, so the barmaid offered a taste. That always impresses me. And it was good stuff, too. We sat outside where it was nicer than you'd think given that it's on a roundabout. Definitely worth a return visit Royed - 3 Oct 2011 12:33 |

I rarely give anything more than a 8/10 and never give 10/10 so this 9 means it's one hell of a place. Clean, tidy, smart, refreshing with great service from the bar right through to the food service and the restaurant. The ales are great and well presented, it's just a bit more expensive than the down town Southend pubs. Otherwise, it's excellent. Mcloj - 26 Jul 2010 14:40 |
