Having tried to call The Eagle all day (from 9am) I eventually drove round to the pub at 3.30pm to try and book a table for the evening. I called on my mobile just before entering the pub and there was still no answer (just kept diverting to the fax machine). When I got to the bar there were 2 members of staff, one of whom was was changing the music in the CD player (could she not have answered the phone?). I explained to the barman that I'd been trying to call to book a table. He said 'sorry we've been busy but we're full tonight'. When I queried about them not answering the phone, he just repeated that they were busy (what, since 9am? - could they not have an answerphone message saying they're fully booked?) but that they were full anyway so it wouldn't have made any difference if I had got through. He seemed to miss the point that I had had to drive to the pub to find this out! Appalling customer service, I will not be returning. ponjii - 12 Dec 2008 16:04 |

I find this pub rather disappointing. Its too big to have any kind of atmosphere, and so its a hopeless place to go if you want a friendly local feel. The beer is good, but generally this pub tries to be all things to all men, and subsequently fails on all accounts really. The food is good but overpriced. GoatWilson - 21 Jun 2007 23:07 |
Interesting reviews so far. We eat at this pub twice per week on average and we are always very happy with the service, the food and general atmosphere. We use to eat at many other Norwich restaurants on a regular basis but I'm afraid they have lost our custom because we feel so at home in this great place. Nigel, the landlord does not own a red Ferrari and I have never experienced the customer issues alluded. I am not an ex-landlord nor am I an estate agent. I have lived and worked all over the world and have genuinely not eaten so consistently well at these prices. The food equals the best in Norwich and beats most of it. I suggest the anonymous reviewers either go again to try it out with an open mind or for ever remain in ignorance. trowseman - 13 Nov 2006 19:32 |
I visited The Eagle for the first time last night. It was my husbands 40th birthday and there were nine of us celebrating together. We received a very warm welcome and, after drinks at the bar, were taken through to our table in the restaurant. The atmosphere in the restaurant was mellow with great choices of background music. I have to say that the service we received was impeccable; the staff couldnt have been more attentive. The food was exceptional; cooked to perfection and praised by everyone in the party. After the desserts, the owner himself brought my husbands birthday cake to the table and even started the singing! We had a great night at The Eagle and will definitely go there again - soon! andreag - 9 Nov 2006 11:02 |
