Philip Larkin once said "life is first boredom and then fear". Visiting this boozer for me certainly characterizes the former. I was here Easter Sunday around 9ish with my girlfriend and a couple of mutual friends on a Midhurst pub crawl. The dcor was palpably tatty. It was not my round, so I cannot comment on the price of the drinks, given we only stopped here for one. There also appeared to be a pool competition towards the far end of the boozer, which I am told is a regular feature in Midhurst Sunday nights. Sadly, the Silver Horseshoe just gave the impression of another dull pub in a relatively dull area come Friday/Saturday or a Bank Holiday night. Going out in Midhurst is a bit like the 10 minute free view on television X: it never appears to change. By this I mean that come a night like this or a Friday/Saturday night, the town is devoid of any vibrant atmosphere. As a result, this pub does not have enough character to avoid falling under the vapid Midhurst umbrella for a night out. In spite of the above, the jukebox in the corner looks like it could have an array of tunes and if youre a fan of pool, then it is worth a visit. I imagine the drinks would not be too pricey either. For the H-File search, however, I would avoid like bird flu. Searching_for_H_Files - 11 Apr 2007 11:49 |
