I found this pub to be one of the warmest Id ever visited. Not only that the service and food was excellent. I stayed for two nights and found the rooms to be very clean and cosy. I will defiantly be visiting The fleece Inn again hopefully soon! gesocial - 26 Oct 2011 00:09 |
You can ignore the previous comments about poor service and food. The tennants who were responsible for that have gone and there is a new landlord and landlady (Glyn & Caroline) and despite being there less than 3 months, they have already turned the Fleece Inn around. The real ales are well kept and presented, the food is excellent and very plentiful. The service is great. We both had one of the best steaks we've had in a long time. Tender and perfectly cooked, my wife's well done (but not cremated) and mine medium. Breakfasts were also delicious and huge! The rooms are well appointed and comfortable, with character. However, you need to understand that this is an inn and not a hotel. You WILL hear noise from the bar below until the customers leave, but that is normal when you stay in an inn! Glyn and Caroline even offer a free pick up and drop off service for the locals so that they can enjoy a night out in the pub without having to worry about drinking and driving! How god is that? We will most definitely be back to stay again!! gohunter - 23 Oct 2010 23:09 |
Having been recommended this pub by a good friend, we were disappointed to discover that there were two classes of customer service. One for the regular stand alone meals, and one for the "specials". My friend had previously been surprised by the quantity and quality of the food she received on her visit. However, when the same meal was ordered as part of a "special" (3 courses for the price of one - on a much reduced menu), the meal was considerably downsized (4 chips - I kid you not!!!!) and when asked why there was only four chips and no apple but just a small pile of stodge for the crumble, the owner Terry replied "I don't actually care", stating that the special menu was a bargain and therefore we should not be expecting the same portions or quality. This was in no way indicated on the menu or when ordering. It would not have been so bad if there had been any semblance of polite acknowledgement of our complaint, however, the rudeness simply added insult to injury. If you want a proper dinner dont order the special! docontherock - 29 Oct 2008 18:14 |
New landlord trying hard. Usually choice of 3 real ales in good condition. Warm friendly pub. tommytentummies - 5 Mar 2008 22:41 |
I drove our family 30 miles to this 2007 Beer Guide listed pub on Mayday Bank Holiday for some lunch and to sample a real ale or two. The pub looks a bit shabby on the outside with outdated Mitchell's signage, but seemed fine inside. But, the reception was less than welcoming with a member of staff not keen to give us menus. Puzzled by this I nevertheless ordered a pint and a half of Copper Dragon Golden Pippin. After making sure I'd paid, they THEN told us that there'd be a 25 minute wait BEFORE they took our food order, despite the place being only two-thirds full. We couldn't be arsed arguing with them for a refund so we downed the ale and left. Terry_W - 9 May 2007 21:58 |
