One of my favourite pubs. This is a free house, one of the best and oldest pubs in Rugeley. Always a warm welcome, the staff are great and there is usually someone to have the banter with. Draught Bass has been the Vine's speciality for years and is always spot on. There is usually also another real ale on, Holden's Bitter recently. On cold days they have a lovely fire burning. The pub has changed little in the 30 odd years Ive been using it, long may it stay that way. Great pub, great atmosphere and superb beer. MoggieMinor - 25 Dec 2012 18:50 |
Went in search of this place while in the town after reading about the supposedly legendary Bass.Bit of a run down pub, very untidy, but a homely local I expect for the nearby residents. The Bass is very good after all. greyhead - 1 May 2012 17:15 |
I recently moored up my narrowboat in Rugeley and spent a good hour trudging around the town for a pub that sold cask ale. I eventually stumbled upon the Plaza, a Weatherspoo pub, I bought a pint and went to settle in the beer garden. I sat next to a gentleman and told him of my disappointment in the standard of pub in the town. He asked me if I liked Draught Bass, I replied that it was one of my favourite ales. Shortly afterwards, he led me to the vine which was only 5 minutes away. I have to say that not only was the Bass one of the best I have ever had but also, the company was as friendly as you will find anywhere. I strongly recommend this pub to anyone who likes a traditional pub serving excellent ales accompanied by friendly and good humoured locals. iaindutton - 21 Jul 2010 16:42 |
Attractive looking multi roomed pub with a friendly welcome and very well kept ales, the draught bass was in tip top condition. The main bar looks out to the front, there is a pool/games room to the left of the entrance and two back rooms, one used by the younger set with a juke box.Charming boozer and much better than some of the other town centre bars.
