It seems as if the problems mentioned by Blue Scrumpy have now been rectified. This is a lovely rural pub next to a very attractive, chocolate-box cricket field ringed by Oak trees. I visited around 5.45pm on a Saturday and enjoyed a good meal along with a few pints. Pub was reasonably busy and bar staff very friendly. Beers were Oakham ales JHB & Inferno, along with Greene King. Garden may need a bit of attention though... Barrow_Beer_Hunter - 10 Jun 2013 09:03 |
The solitary barman at this pub seemed to be either struggling or extremely lazy, given the amount of glasses that had built up on the outside tables. You could not see one the wood of one table for all the empty pint glasses. You just sensed that there might be a table somewhere underneath the glass mountains. However despite this, the pub has a fairly laid back and welcoming ambience with both tiled and carpeted areas and plenty of things on the wall to keep you interested, including black & white pictures of the village, trophies above the bar, rugby articles over the fireplace and cricket team pictures on a wall opposite. The real ale range was also fairly decent with tellingly the only Leicestershire (not strictly Leicestershire but Rutland is close) beer we found despite visiting 10 Leicestershire pubs (Grainstore Ten Fifty). In addition to this, there was also Banks's Bitter, Greene King IPA & Old Speckled Hen and Bass. There was also live music (a couple playing guitars). With at least one more staff member, this could become a good pub. blue_scrumpy - 24 May 2010 18:04 |
This is a great pub in a picturesque village tucked away in the Leicestershire countryside. The location is perfect on a sunny day with the beer garden overlooking the cricket pitch. The landlord and his wife are welcoming and friendly and this in turn is passed on to their staff who are courteous. Sky Sports are available on the big screen and sport fans are well catered which creates a great atmosphere. This pub also hosts car rallies on every second Tuesday of the summer months and these are extremely popular. Be warned if crowds aren't your thing! The food is well cooked and the portions are generous. Booking is advised as the restaurant can get quite busy at weekends. Definately worth a vist! pohsibel - 25 May 2009 10:54 |
