After finding the Broadway in Totland Bay closed, we made a brief detour to the Needles and then returned to the Colwell Bay Inn to find this one has been closed, seemingly for good. Large railings block access to the property and a large sold sign was on the front of the building. Another pub I may never get to try. blue_scrumpy - 5 Jun 2012 20:29 |
Defiantly recommended for food and beer. We visited the Colwell Bay Inn several times during June/July 09. The place has recently changed hands and the new owner is rebuilding the business from what appeared to be a low position. The price of the beer was good, the food superb and the wait time for the food was very short compared to some places wed been. One evening I actually managed a word with the chef and congratulated him personally. The bar area seems a bit lacking in atmosphere but hopefully this will improve, as far as we know it only changed hands Easter 2009 so give it time. One word of warning: they dont cook on Mondays but give your stomach and wallet a treat another evening. GreyTiger - 13 Jul 2009 17:48 |
I called in here for an early lunch on Saturday and had a well looked after pint of Ringwood fortyniner in the back garden, with a tasty plate of scampi & proper chips, salad. The barmaid was friendly and the order arrived promptly. Total cost was nine quid something. My only regret was that although I saw this place the day before, I had gone to one of the pricier touristy pubs elsewhere on the island. I shall know better next time I'm on the IoW! The no.7 bus to Newport stops outside the front door. apchilcott - 12 May 2009 20:10 |
THE COLWELL BAY IS NOW UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP AND WILL BE OPEN EARLY MARCH. WE WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. laineylawrie - 19 Feb 2009 16:41 |
Below average pub, intertior and rear beer garden in need of face lift. Would not class staff as friendly as others have done in earlier reviews; all a little grumpy and flustered on day of our visit which was on a Sunday night when pub was quite. Adventure playground was closed on day of our visit. Just a bouncy castle for kids. Many tables left uncleared for long periods both inside and out As for food, I cant comment as we cancelled our order and left after waiting for over 55 mins for ours to arrive. We were not the only ones complaining about the delays that night either. Much better pubs in area. southernspire - 30 Jul 2006 18:33 |
