Goodness knows how this pub won W Sussex Pub of the Year, I can only think they voted for themselves, just as I feel the other reviews here have been written by the landlord/staff. Admittedly from the outside it looks like an interesting old place, indeed the main room is, but its put over to 'meal' use so you cant sit there for a drink and are thus forced into a small, smelly area next to the toilets, which isnt pleasant. As for the toilets themselves, horrid. How can a place keep running with such an old, unkempt and frankly nasty facility. Then there's the restaurant staff - we were told in no uncertain terms by a large blonde woman that we would have to wait and wait we certainly did. She could have said it in a more friendly and welcoming way, by way of apology, but no, it was a threatening snarl. Again no apology when she took our order and another expression of superiority with a haughty "what do you want". My partner asked for his meat to be very well done, but it arived a pink mush, which needed to be sent back, again with no apology. Horrible place and horrible service. A_G - 17 Aug 2012 12:23 |
The Star Inn @ Rusper........ recently crowned West Sussex Pub of the year, and I am not at all suprised. The Landlord is exremely likeable and keeps his beer well. The staff always look as if they are enjoying themselves and this translates to a great atomosphere. After eating there a number of times it is clear that the kitchen team are very good at what they do, good selection of meals, very well presented and brilliant flavours. lee2601 - 28 Oct 2011 15:40 |
Nice atmosphere pub, strange layout of rooms inside. Although my last visit was with a group of ramblers and we sat in the beer garden! tommo5 - 30 Jul 2011 23:15 |
This pub can get busy at weekends. Good food and a varied menu with some greek specials on (the landlord is Greek and a real diamond). Staff are friendly. There is a fairly large dining area and reasonably priced menu (considering it's a countryside pub.) A smallish sized sun terrace garden to the rear. As a beer drinker this pub is second to none for it's Fullers London Pride, kept to perfection. A great pub for a quiet drink in the week but does get busier as the weekends approach. The Sunday roast, (food after 6pm) is great. Jericho - 10 Jul 2011 20:09 |
What a lovely friendly pub. Excellent selection of drinks and fantastic food. The food is a bit pricey but par for the course in this area. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly with a warm welcome from all the staff. Beer is served at perfect temperature. Its very busy so booking is recommended at weekends. Well worth a visit susie.p - 20 Jun 2011 22:05 |
