One of two pubs visited in St Andrews, this one on 3 seperate occassions and the other on two - the other pub is the Whey Pat Tavern. For selection of ales, staff appreciation of customers and ale and location, this pub wins hands down. If sunny, the chairs outside are a premium. The two best ales I remember both came from the Inveralmund brewery and wer named Tharppledouser and Lia Fail. Bit further down (two doors) is McGregoers coffee/haberdashery shop - excellent bacon rolls. kernott1 - 11 Sep 2010 21:12 |
Hello this used to be a favourite pub of mine in St Andrews. I was, however, disappointed during a recent visit when I was served a decidedly off pint of old Peculier. The bar maid insisted that it was just on. When I asked her to taste it, she insisted it was ok. I asked for the manager, who told her to offer me another beer. I picked Lia Fail, which was in good form. The bar maid then tried to tell me again that the old Pec was ok. To which I replied that I had been drinking that ale for over 25 years and I knew when it was off. She was quiet after that and probably relegated me to her list of annoying old farts! Lets hope your visit is more enjoyable than mine. jimg jimg - 13 Jul 2009 14:24 |
Didn't eat here, but it's a good beer pub. Our golf trip made this our 'local' for the duration after the shock that was Aikmans Cellar Bar (see separate review). They stocked a good range of well-kept beers, including the local (Perth ) Inveralmond Ossian. Staff happy to provide a sample and very responsive. BarryH - 8 Jun 2009 10:32 |
Good beer but very disappointing food. Ate there yesterday. Once we had paid we were told "Sorry. No baguettes but you can have bread instead". There was no sour cream with the baked potato ("Sorry we have run out") and the chips were cold. Rather a grim pub lunch. Drink - don't eat. buachaille - 21 Sep 2008 19:49 |
This place has really gone downhill since a recent change in management...no guest ales, terrible service, 2 huge tellys on all the time with no-one watching but the staff. Even tho' it the nearest, I'm only going back if forced! Annakucat - 6 Mar 2008 10:25 |
