First time in here a couple of days ago so I can't comment on its previous incarnations but I found it a comfortable, cosy pub (I'm a sucker for a booth) that warmed up a cold day. The Flying Scotsman was fine and I regretted being full as I watched other patrons trying to work out how to tackle mountainous pies with vertiginous crusts. Kenny260556 - 15 Apr 2013 21:37 |
This pub was restored recently to remove the feinian tat that scarred this establishment. It is now the criterion again is all the better for it. At least two real ales always on offer. recomended for being a more relaxed atmosphere than the booze crazed dens of iniquity that some of the larger town centre bars have become. longsdon - 17 Dec 2006 17:59 |
a typically pointless "irish bar" .. was once 'the criterion' a characterful 'town and gown' bar .. but like quite a few of the pubs in town, the breweries have had their wicked way with it. BlueDevil - 20 Aug 2005 04:34 |
Fairly standard spray-on faux 'Oirish Bar'. Decent enough beer, food and ambience, seems a fairly safe place to hide from the students who seem to prefer blowing their grants in the Gin House/Ogstons over the road. MrLash - 20 Dec 2004 15:36 |
