After 20 years of occasionally using this place, my visits in the last 5 or so have been only in curiosity to see if they have finally made any improvements. I'll always give a place a second chance. You could go in here for a pint - but there are better pubs close by. Still an element of customer comes second although this has improved over the years. Better prices on the pumps recently too. It is nice to sit outside if the weather is ok and you like watching the world go by - the other side of a very busy road. You could go in here for something to eat - but be aware that this place has in the past been closed down over hygiene issues and again there are much better places to eat close by too. Perhaps I just repeatedly keep catching it on a bad day? Thirsty_Jonny - 16 May 2008 16:04 |
Well it's almost a year on from the last review and I can honestly say it came up trumps for us. We hadn't been there before and used it as a stop-off for something to eat on the way home after a weekend break. As for being expensive, we definately didn't experience that. I opted for the turkey curry (which I except may have been a prepared one) and got a free pint of Carling included for 4.99. My partner and three kids went for the really tasty-looking carvery, which cost her 3.50 and 3.25 each for the children, even though the one was over the kids age limit (and looks it). In hindsight, I wish I had gone for the same, as theit meals looked beautiful with real generous servings of meat. I stuck with the one pint I had with my curry, but did notice that the lager was cheaply priced, which one costing 1.95 and even the Export (think was Carlsberg) was only 2.30. If you can see that cheaper anywhere else then please let me know. For everything, including drinks and deserts, the cost came to just under 35 pounds. Also, the customer service was polite and friendly. The car park was full when we went on a lunchtime, indicating to me if there was something wrong before, then it must have surely been sorted out now. Total thumbs up. Manic - 8 Oct 2007 22:53 |
I used to be a regular customer at the crosspool tavern, but stopped visiting when it got grubby and the staff coudn't be bothered. Since then it is under new management, and things seem a lot better, but alass I still don't go as the new management raised the price of a pint by 30p in one go. I dont think this pub really wants a regular/local trade and prefer the easier option of resturant trade. regieboy - 16 Nov 2006 18:58 |
I'm not sure what the future is for this pub, but it is really being talked down at the moment. I hear that it's food is not as good as it was, the local papers have reported two health and safety scares at the place and some locals are wondering if the place will survive. It's never been a great pub but it appears to be getting worse. anonymous - 27 Oct 2006 19:05 |
Not somewhere you'd want to go for a sesh, maybe, but good food. Dame - 31 Jul 2006 18:52 |
