As soon as you walk in you feel like you have entered the Farrow & Ball Heritage Paint catalogue! But does justify the higher than average food prices? Plenty of friendly, but rather effective staff; canal-themed bitter was off (apparently not enough throughput to justify having another barrel racked ready - so if you're not busy, why so many staff?). In the middle of winter, the alternative was a "summer gold" type beer?! Yes, it is smart, clean and tidy, but that really isn't enough. Mike_Oxford - 1 Feb 2015 16:14 |
A bit disappointed with this place. The trees on the opposite side of the canal tend to overcast the canal-side area. Nice to see the narrow-boats chugging by. Not many people in at the end of May, Saturday afternoon. Helpful staff. Mind your head at the bar. Mona_Growser - 1 Jun 2014 18:45 |
Had a lovely lunch there on Sunday - warm pub with cosy real fires, delicious food. Friendly service. Malachite - 13 Dec 2010 11:44 |
Friendly staff could not compensate for a pub that has been spoilt and is lacking in character . Beer is ok but its not a place I would rush back to. steamraiser2 - 10 Jul 2010 21:58 |
Quite a large pub in a very good location next to the Oxford canal. As a result it attracts many people from the boats in the season and can be busy. Given the potential here it is very disappointing with a feel of a Harvester about it. Real ales were uninspiring and although we have not eaten there vthe food looks OK but nothing special. If you want a pub rather than a fanmily restaurant for tourists then I would suggest The Boat a couple of hundred yards up the canal is a better bet. Brewshed - 18 Jan 2008 11:02 |
