No longer a Wetherspoons, now called 'Pennies'
|
I have been in the penny black a few times but not for a while now. The pub is filthy, the staff are not good, the manager would rather stand talking to the usual cronies who frequent the pub on a daily basis! Tables are usually piled with dirty plates and glasses. I have seen a few arguements and a fight or two, the toilets leave a lot to be desired. A couple of years back there was a short video being circulated, taken in the ( wont say ladies) toilet, two drunken girls , dont think i need say more than that. I would close the place

First time here - recently.
Surprised to see a dartboard in a Wetherspoon.
The manager told me its the only one in the entire c1000 pub group.
Demand - was the answer/reason.

My visits here have been restricted to weekday lunchtime and later in the afternoon so no idea what the place is like at a weekend or of an evening. Typical Wetherspoons setup really, big glass fronted building so you can see what you're getting yourself into before you step inside! Varied selection of real ale on, staff seemed fine, clientele a mixed bag of stereotypical Wetherspoons drinkers. Not the kind of place I would want to chance a meal at though, don't know why, just something about this establishment.

This is possibly the worst Weatherspoons I have ever visited. If JD Weatherspoons had any sense they would sell it now to stop it from using their name. Noisy, dirty, very dodgy clientele, average beer and very average staff. The pub is rather typical of Kidderminster to be honest!

Visited this pub on the evening of 11th June 2012 to watch the England vs France Euro match and took my boyfriend along who's from outside the area. Regretably, the service and attitude recieved from one member of staff in particular plus the manager was unacceptable and embarassing and completely spoiled our evening! On top of this the place appeared unclean with sticky tables! The manager acted like a cardboard cutout and was not really interested in our concerns. The impression is that this place is going to the dogs. Come on Wetherspoons, get a grip!!! Thought I could rely onthe Wetherspoons name for good quality food, vfm and good venue with friendly helpful staff. This place lets the Wetherspoons name down on all fronts and regrettablt lets Kidderminster down too! Your customers and Kidderminster deserve much better!!!

visited first time for quiet meal and drink. bar girl emma couldnt be bothered to ask whos next when waiting to be serves and when i mentioned it got lot of attitude back. asked to speak to the manager who listened to my complaint but said my version differed from emmas version. needless to say i left in disgust. the place also appears drab and unclean and from my experience is poorly managed with very poor staff! a very disappointing experience. have written to wetherspoon to complain and willawait there response with interest!

I've frequented quite a few Witherspoons over the years, and yet the Penny Black is without doubt the worst! It had more atmosphere when it was a draper's shop!! They advertise their own 'beer festivals', yet I've found during the festival they seem limited to just two or three guest beers in addition to the usual fare. Low prices are their obvious forte, and at almost 50% cheaper than all others in the town you can't ignore the place. Like all other town centre pubs in Kiddy on a weekend they employ two 'doormen', yet recently seemed to have bucked the trend and ditched all the security; I don't think anyone has noticed!

coors spot on. bad food. only go for the beer so not a bad pub

Service was a bit slow, but we were served with reasonable real ale. Had to take a load of crockery off an uncleared table before we could get our drinks on. Extremely busy, but a member of staff advised us on other real ale pubs in the area to try. Toilets clean.

Met up with a couple of friends in there last Saturday. Nothing has changed since my last post - other than that I didn't dare order anything to eat. The main problem seems to be that they never have enough staff - hence the large amount of glasses/full ashtrays/sticky tables at 5.30 in the afternoon!
They also open at 9am for Kidderminsters finest class of pisshead.
Just because the place is reasonably priced for Kiddy (i.e cheap) does not give it the excuse to be dirty, smell and generally sh*te. Or maybe it does?

It was OK when I went there. I didn't order food but someone who went there earlier in the day said food took 40 minutes to arrive. Also all the real ale had run out when they were there (but it had reappeared when I was there). No dirt or smell of sick when I was there. Toilets were clean.

Gross, dirty, no atmosphere. Cold food.
Not a bad place to start a "going to get drunk at all costs" night though.
|
Well, what can I say? Everytime I go in this pub it has a distinct aroma for sick! It's a good starting point for a night in Kiddy - get the cheap booze early, afterall it is a Wetherspoons.
The food is usually ok. I tend to find that when I order food, they have "ran out" of food. That being said, it is popular at lunch times.
A wide variety of beers and wines on offer. As I said, not bad for a starting point in the town.

This place is TERRIBLE.
Ok, so it's a weatherspoons but you'd still think they'd train their staff on the tricky art of cooking chips.
And when I complain that my hot baguette FILLING is in fact stone cold - it's not wise to put the whole thing in the microwave for 30 seconds so the actual baguette is piping hot.
|
It's a Weaterspoons. My pork bap was cold and came with about 5 chips - couldn't be bothered to complain as it's expected from that sort of a place I suppose. Cheep beer and no atmosphere.
