The service in this pub is truly terrible. On a recent visit to Bath we went here for lunch and found one poor girl working behind the bar and serving the food. It is a big pub and was pretty busy so whoever is in charge of staffing needs a reality check. The bar was full of people waiting to be served, and I should think the average wait to be served at the bar was about 15 minutes. There were numerous people walking out. Popped in the following day thinking that the previous day had been a one off and was greeted by two people this time, both with extremely surly attitudes. If you want a decent drink in Bath go round the corner to The Old Green Tree which is a cracking little pub with excellent service. Avoid the Saracen's Head like the plague. I shall certainly not be returning.

Very quiet on a recent early evening visit with not a rugby fan in sight

Used to be a whole, but has really smartened up since it refit. Good food and ales are some of the best I've had. Gets pretty busy on a Saturday, especially if bath are at home. Great place for a few pints after work with its relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Was also really happy to see they show la liga games in the evening!

Probably the worst pub i've been in in a long while. Saturday night, it was hot, smelly and uncomfortably noisy. It was quite busy (rugby crowd) and after I couldn't get served after a good half hour I left - staff were probably the most disinterested I have come across.
|
Agree with previous comments. Menu's mediocre, beer's mediocre, atmosphere's non existent and cleanliness is poor. Might be OK if you're a football fanatic - which I'm not.
|
Do not bother, this place always has been and always will be a shite hole. Avoid.

Had some time to kill before meeting a friend so went here to find it was closed at 11.30am on a busy Saturday (18th Dec).
A week before Xmas and also Bath Rugby were home to Ulster with a 1.30pm k.o. and this palce was closed!

A surprisingly large pub with entrances at both the front and the rear on to Walcott Street. Theres several different areas inside with a large central bar and a smaller lounge of to the rear, and a large room at the back with a pool table and darts board as well as a large projection screen although this was not in use on our visit. One wall here is built of Bath stone which is a change from the rest of the pub.
There are a few other TVs dotted around, and a few of the punters seemed to be enjoying the football that was on. Mrs. B was none to keen on having to squeeze through a group of these blokes to get to the loo, and when she did get there found that one of them was blocked, no doubt due to the fact that the hand dryer was broken and everyone was throwing paper towels down the pan. The gents was no better being dark and dingy, and this was also blocked. The staff seemed pleasant enough, although seemed a bit distracted.
The food offering is fairly typical of what youd expect with a large laminated menu divided in to several sections such as Lite Bites, Grills Pub Classics, Burgers, Mains, etc., and offering all sorts of price led promotions, such as curry nights, burger nights and grill nights. However, with the only drinks on offer as part of these deals being John Smiths Extra Smooth or Fosters, theyre unlikely to tempt too many people I would have thought. Breakfasts are available from 1.99 or 2.99 if you want an extra sausage and chips (!).
Beers on tap were Buckleys Best, Greene King IPA and 6X. There was a fourth pump on the bar but this did not appear to be in use. Ciders were Blackthorn and Strongbow.

The place stinks (literally). It needs a major clean. The ale is awful (I left most of it) and being there made me feel physically sick. Go anywhere else.

Went inside on a saturday evening with a few friends, celebrating a birthday. we were in search of a quiet pub to socialise in, and seeing that the pub was only half full, we decided to enter.
upon entry we were approached by a member of staff who demanded to see ID. being a fresh faced student, i am used to being asked, however when he looked at my ID, he saw that it had the new holographic stcker as a pose to the old DVLA print on the reverse. when we explained that it was a new driving license, we were accused of arguing and theatened. as we left and said thank you, we were told not to 'get shirty', and the staff member even insulted my girlfriend, using threatening gestures and foul language.
i have worked in catering for nearly 6 years now, recently in pub and club venues. never before in my proffesional career, nor in my social time have i seen such obscene behaviour from a member of staff. The man in question set out to find trouble, instead of preventing it. consiquently, I will never recommend this pub to anyone, and neither would the 16 people i was with.
The managers should be ashamed to have staff like that.

Very average beer, very average service. I went there on a busy day before Christmas, and the real ales were not replaced as they ran out, and the one left (No idea what it was) was not good. I have been there a couple of other times recently, and have never found the real ale to be well-kept. Next time I will try and persuade my workmates to use the Pig & Fiddle.

Hasn't changed since my last review. Courage Best and Bombardier are cheaper than most other pubs in Bath.
|
An alternative to the Christopher for sports, with TVs everywhere. Downside - it can take an age to get served. The beer is ok. If in the area for a drink I'd probably use the Pig instead.

Has just changed to "over 21s only". Used to use this pub constantly for student socials but obviously thats not possible any more as many of our members are 18-20. Food and drink both good.

Since the old manager has left this pub has gone down hill severly, the new manager is hardly ever seen and the staff are exeptionaly rude offering no help. I went in for food the other last weekend and on a busy saturday they had stopped servring food, after running out of all steaks and chips, not for the first time either. I have often seen the manager abusing staff and have wallked past on ocasion after they are shut and have seen people smoking inside the pub which i find absolutly apauling.
|
An honest, no frills pub with a good range of beers.
|
A good all round pub. Food is good but not overpriced, good range of drinks. Ideal for students and tourists alike.
Only downside is it does get taken over by sports fans when there are matches on.
|
I actually think it's got worse since the old managers left and took on Sam Wellers on Upper Borough Walls. The Saracens gets too packed when there's football or rugby on and it always takes ages to get served at the bar. However, I met some friends there last saturday night and it was empty.

Average pub. Two ales, kept OK. Fine for a quick drink. Boasts an X-box which is at the disposal of pub goers which was quite interesting/unusual.
|
Not great. tries to make a big deal out of being rather old and to be honest its just a bit naff. Chain pub very obvious from menus and blackboards. Much better in area, such as Pig and Fiddle or Green Tree
|
Decent pub - appeared small from outside, surprisingly large inside. Interior did not wow me. Nothing wrong with the place but nothing special either.
|
Another good Bath pub, staff have been known to be a bit rude in the past, but generally speaking, the pub is well worth a visit.
