My local in Ipswich (Queensland) is the Coronation & I promised its publican I would have a beer in namesakes if I came across them. So here I was, boring the bar bloke with my story. He was a patient fellow & served me a pint of Doom Bar (2.80), which was satisfactory. The madness of the Ship a couple of kilometres away had migrated here, with several punters tending to intoxication mid afternoon. What is it with Bristol on Mondays?

No longer a Hopback pub, but still has Summer Lightning.
Also sells Butcombe and Doom Bar.
Good range of ciders, including Thatchers traditional and cheddar valley.
Now a very inexpensive pub, and much more hospitable than it used yo be.

To their eternal discredit, Hop Back have now abandoned the Coronation to its fate - which is as a bargain basement, quantity-before-quality purveyor of cheap national lagers and ciders under new but hardly enterprising management. A sad loss to local beer drinkers who are unlikely to be tempted in by mediocre Courage Best. Back to the future indeed.

Walked here from the Orchard as part of a pub crawl from Hotwells on the 27 Dec 2010 and despite the rain I was glad that I had made the effort.
Internally a single bar operation, this is a pleasant but unremarkable pub, a little tired. 5 out of a possible 6 beers were on from Hopback Brewery plus Bounds Scrumpy from Westons on handpull and Wersteiner lager.
The locals and the lad behind the bar were friendly and the beer was in good condition on my visit on the 27th Dec 2010.
Will someone buy the pub a new carpet?!!!
6/10

A pub that look's like it could be an unfriendly local from the outside, but inside is friendly and comfortable. The pint of Hopback Winter Lightning was very quaffable aswell. 7/10

A pleasant community pub situated in the back streets just off of Coronation Road. Its generally quite tidy and up together, although the carpet is a little worn in places. It seemed quite busy on a recent Thursday night visit, which is good to see.

Its a little dated in some ways with an old fashioned, curved wooden bar but that just adds a bit of character. The menu seemed to consist mostly of pizzas which were chalked up on a board behind the bar. The furniture is mostly very chunky wooden tables adding a suitably rustic feel to the place. Barman seemed friendly enough and there was a small selection of board games available.

Beers were all either from the Hopback brewery or Downtons. From the former there was Halcyon Daze, Crop Circle and Summer Lightning. From the latter, Golden Goal and All Rounder. The solitary cider was Stowford Press.

Visited for the first time in many years. Hop BacK Autumn Glow and New Year's Ale were in top condition and the Bateman's Miss Scotland was pretty good too. Clean bar and toilets and efficient service. I should come here more often.

Excellent street corner local with good value beers from Hopback.

Summer Lightning, Autumn Glow, Red Ember, GFB, Crop Circle, Downton New Forest. Plain long bar facing door, big pine tables, rock&roll soundtrack. Heard fellow punter offer barman a drink he said Ill have a bottle of Bud if thats ok. No! Thats so bloody wrong! Cant remember if he rescinded the offer, I would have.

Just want to endorse AEM's comments.
Basically a class, no frills neighbourhood boozer. You can chat to the regulars about politics, X-Factor or City, or just bury your nose in a book or the papers whist sampling a pint of the fine Hopback range. Usually 5 Hopback beers and one or two guests. The guest scrumpy policy seems to have disappeared though as it's now Weston's Trad(?) on permanently.

Meant to post about here ages ago also, have been coming here off and on for years and can profess that this is a massively consistent pub. Ale has always been good,I believe the manageress has been in situ for many years. Nothing ever has seemed to change, except the bandit going to the skip. Always a big pile of newspapers to read, always someone ready to refill your glass, clean khazis-yes its how a pub should be. Reasonably priced ale and like TWG says yes safely ignore a lot of the dumps in the area, but this is well worth a visit.

For some reason this pub has been known to me for some years since Hop Back took over, and yet I've never reviewed it. All the same, it would seem that other users have drawn the same conclusions as me. Like most pubs in this district of Bristol, The Coronation is a solid, unpretentious local, tucked away in a close-knit residential area. However, by no means do all pubs serve such a superb range of cask ales, and provide equally worthwhile food to boot.
In addition to what is usually 4 or 5 HB ales (a HB tied outlet is of course very rare in these parts), always well-kept, there is sometimes a guest ale (Downton IPA on last visit), and - the real coup - the once fleeting appearance of the award-winning Janet's Jungle Juice cider now appears to be permanent, as it has now been given its own handpump! JJJ virgins should have a care however, as it is dangerously strong yet remarkably quaffable.
Pizzas are served here and act as classic fodder for soaking up of the excess beer/cider, which one will undoubtedly consume, in the absence of a car at least.
The interior decor is a little dated perhaps, but there's nothing wrong with that and it does help to create a certain ambience for the place.
You can safely ignore the majority of pubs in Bedminster and Southville, but do so with this one at your peril.

Visited tonight before Saints played Bristol City. Pretty much a full range of Hop Back beers: GFB, Crop Circle, Odyssey, Summer Lightning and I believe a seasonal - Thunderstorm. Entire Stout and Taiphoon in bottles with at least one from Downton. Lovely back street local. Food was pizzas for a fiver each which were excellent.

Thoroughly recommended, only problem was I was driving so only two halves before the game.

If you want a small pleasant pub with a safe atmosphere this is it. Beautiful little gem situated in the middle class area of southville. Not far down the road are a couple of rough pubs, but don't let that put you off as this is well worth a few pints in. There is a selection of the usual beers along with some great pints of hopback. The pub is quite small and seating is unfortunatly sometimes hard to come by on a busier day. If you are in the area it's like a country pub in the town and worth going into.

Excellent hopback beers. Best pub in this part of Bristol.

Lovely local boozer with a nice mix of drunken locals and professionals. Lovely hopback beer and nice cider

Visted before and after football when my tean was playing in Bristol. Nothing fancy just an honest down to earth boozer serving great Hopback beer.
Well worth making a detour outside of the main central area of Bristol.
