Called in on a sleepy Monday afternoon and found the pub pleasantly patronised. Wonderful traditional pub, very friendly atmosphere. Oakham's Scarlet Macaw was on, as well as a few others, and was in fine fettle at a bargain £2.20
Highly recommended.

Report from Glossop Pub Crawl on 03.05.2014: excellent pub right next door to Glossop train station. Had Moorhouses White Mist which was very good. The pub is traditional and comfortable in style, and is well recommended.

when in Glossop we always call in to the Star as it is very convenient for the train station, the pub always has a good selection of real ales on tap and are always on top form. always a pub to call into if you are in Glossop.

The best pub in Glossop for real ale by a mile. Great selection served in great condition. Don't do food though.
What I would describe as a "classic" real ale pub and certainly by far the best in Glossop. Knowledgeable bar staff who are always happy to give you a taster of the real ales that are on, usually 4 or so plus real cider.

Visited with friends over New Year as part of a pub crawl. Without doubt the best Pub of the evening, friendly traditional place with a good selection of guest beers, well impressed.
The Star is a nice pub in a handy location for the Train Station in Glossop. The beer is well kept and always good. There are usually four or five beers on the handpump. On my latest visit (last night, 29/12/2012), I had pints of Ossett Brewery Treacle stout (particularly nice), Taylors Landlord and Pictish Columbus. The pub is traditional and comfortable in style, and is well recommended.

Great pub with friendly locals and excellent ales. Good selection of different bar snacks too. Highly recommended.

All the below comments are spot on. Cracking little place with 4 ales to choose from on my visit. Nice relaxed atmosphere.
Unsurprisingly still the best real ale pub in Glossop, good selection of real ales, always kept and served in top condition.

Agree with they guy below, went in with a mate at the weekend and the quality of the beers is superb, certainly no other pub in Glossop comes close. Pity they don't do food.
Still by a long way the best real ale pub in Glossop, with ever changing guest beers, ciders, sometimes from local producers. Usually have a couple of Beer Festivals each year with real traditional Indian Food available (i.e. not the sort you get in the local restaurants). Have been known to hold the occasional Pie Competition!!
Probably the best real ale in Glossop. Good ever changing selection kept in top condition. Draught Cider on handpump and superb quality bottled cider. Fortunately no Magners dishwater in sight! Unfortunately don't do food, but when I visited early evening some of the local had brought in a selection of cheese, pies etc. which were on offer for free, couldn't quite establish how often this occurs!!!

A pub I've visited on many occasions over the years and l echo the previous gentleman's comments. This is a nice pub in a convenient location (right opposite railway station) and if real ale is your thing you are rarely disappointed here.
Beer? Usually four on tap (plus one real cider) and the range varies, although I've noticed over the last few visits that Black Sheep bitter seems to be a regular these days? Other offerings yesterday (26/11) were from Castle Rock~Elsie Mo, Lancaster~Amber & the best of the lot, Pictish~Columbus which was beautiful.
The interior here is somewhat traditional, but it's warm & comfortable and generates it's own unique character. Based on one long sloping room (main bar) it has a cosy snug bar at the bottom end (here you'll find the gaming machines) On my visit the clientle were mostly "real ale" based which tended to put them in the middle to older age bracket. As on previous visits I am happy to report that the place was spotlessly clean and that goes for the toilet too. The young lady serving was also very pleasant and gave me a full glass every time, so no complaints here either.
Overall, a good pub, friendly locals & excellent beer, not much more you can say really....Recommended! Oh, just one small gripe? The beer prices...at 2.80 and upwards it's not an all day venue.

Despite living in North Wales I visit this pub at least 7 or 8 times per month as I spend a number of weekends in Glossop. Unlike a previous reviewer I have never found the pub to be clique-y or the barmaids or two barmen to ever delay serving customers while they finish talking to their friends. The beer is always excellent as they take a pride in how they look after and serve their ale. I find The Star to be friendly and welcoming to all whatever their age, although during the weekend there doesn't appear to be too many youngsters. Whether on my own or with friends I always feel comfortable to be in there. I recently took some visiting American friends there for a drink and they loved the place (although they couldn't take to proper ale). Excellent pub, excellent beer and excellent staff, well worth a visit, most people won't be disappointed.

Barmaid took too long to stop talking to the locals in this very clique-y and dull pub before serving us. Great ale range, but mediocre Stowford Press. Surprised to see Sambrooke's Wandle from our London neck of the woods up north, which was very nice. Sadly not top of the list of places to visit again.

1st port of call after a long train journey. Good pub with lovely views of the peak ditrict on the front door.
Nice , tidy and a clean pub. Good choice of real ales which are well kept. Would definatly recommend to call in for a drink.
A good selection of popular real ales when I visited. The ones I tried were well kept. Weel worth a visit.
Good pub if you like cider and perry. Great any time of the week for a swift half or pint.
Close to train station, you can practically here the trains pulling in so you know how long you have to finish your drink. Good range of changing ales and also home to the local beer festival, as posted earlier.
An unmissable pub. Beer kept well and a great atmosphere.
An excellent pub with excellent ales.
Located next to the train station and home to the Glossop Beer Festival, this is undoubtedly THE pub to visit if you love your weekly dose of cask conditioned ale. No food, but who cares you come to this place to sup!
Excellent pub serving very good conditioned real ales.
Very handy for the train station. It is a very locally pub but with excellent real ales on offer.
Great beer, friendly locals, handy location
The smoking ban is most welcome for us non smokers, this is a great pub serving superb quality beer. Highly recommended and next door to the railway station.
Very smokey but the beer is fantastic, often have black sheep and some very good summer ales, but on a hot day the Weston Press cider is defo the one to go for.
Interesting pub with a mixed clientele; Boddies was only OK but they obviously make an effort with real ale.
Top Ale, smokey joint, friendly landlady but not too sure of the tubby hubby, he needs to cheer up a bit or let me guess....... some of the customers are very boring, smoke roll-ups, complain about 2 a pint, don't make an effort to change clothes and there's no women in his pub.... Otherwise great!
Great beer, but really smoky.
Small buzzing real ale pub across from the station, selling up to 6 varying guest beers. Snacks (fresh pies etc), good for watching football on sky tv. Licensees are beer lovers and CAMRA members.
