I didn't notice the aforementioned ceiling in this particular pub and it certainly wasn't very crowded on my Saturday morning visit. I was the only customer. It's a fairly small pub hidden away up a side street and away from the hustle and bustle of the High Street. The landlady seemed friendly. Just two real ales were on - Fuller's London Pride & Otter Springfest. The latter was hoppy, but fine considering I'm not a fan of hoppy beers. Sky Sports was being shown on the TV. A pub I hadn't originally planned to visit. But, not a bad one at all.

Very low ceilings. I wouldn't like to say whether they are the lowest ceilings I have ever encountered in a pub because quite frankly I am unsure. But if pushed I would say it certainly falls within the top 5 lowest ceiling pubs I have ever been in.
Staggering.
Lots of men getting angry with the rugby. Like it affects their lives. Beer was alright. Difficult to get to the Gents though through all the excitable rugby men and the low ceiling.

Nice back street pub just off the High Street. Prices same as most of Beckenham nowadays. Seating outside front and back. Current management are pretty decent. Has a couple of TV screens, but very much a Rugby pub, so ask to watch football on them at your own risk.

A great little pub but a ittle expensive. Good staff and friendly locals. The landlord did a good job in making this a proper pub again. Sadly as is always the way when someone decent takes over they become complacent. Constantly running out of the most popular drinks and peanuts and don't keep the toilets fresh anymore. A shame as it could be and should be a 10

This pub has a lot of potential but one thing really holding it back - Mr Grumpy the landlord! What a horrible, rude man he is! Myself and my friends had thought we'd stumbled across a gem of a pub on the weekend. A lovely waitress, friendly locals, good range of drinks and a good location (not to mention the beer garden) but this man's rudeness literally drove us out after he told us to "shut up and leave" because our group of 7 (mixture of friends and friendly pub locals) were being too loud. We were only chatting and laughing over a drink - surely that's what you go to the pub to do!
It was truly shocking how rude that man was. Even the locals were embarrassed! What a terrible shame.

Sorry to disappoint you bloodylimey but change is a constant even in Beckenham.

Visited this pub this past weekend, encouraged after reading 'ripitupandstartagain's report from last November, where he recommended the place for fracs. I told the 'Mrs' to doll herself up, we're off to explore Becknum and to find ourselvles a 'donnybrook'. It's always good to take the liitle lady for such events, particulalry when I need someone to 'hold me back'....She obliged and before we knew it, were safely inside the cramped and over packed interior, where the crowd divided into two side, football and rugby, where numerous middle-ageing geezers appeared in good spirit, they certainly seemed to confirm their King Edward potato look-a-like status, Excellent I thought, looks just the sort of place for us to get in a punch-up! So we stood and were suitably jostled, as I tried to look menacing and 'wanting to know'.... time passed with a rather pricey London Pride and glass of white wine for the lady, not exactly good, but better than I'd expected. Halfway through, still no fight... I started to consider some local pattois, maybe that would help, I rather fancied the old "Oi, you looking at my bird?" (Which I believe is the Beckenham town Motto?) but it just didn't seem to fit. More patrons piled into the bar and I started to get my hopes up, younsters all dollied up for a night out, surely they must be eager for a bit of a dusting?? But as one chap bumped into us he had the audacity to say 'sorry'!!! Downhearted, we finished our drinks and left.... Maybe next eh?

bloody expensive and had more managers than newcastle utd in recent years.

Met some friends here on Sat 20 Nov. Not my sort of pub was full of people watching the rugby then the Palace/Sheffield game came on so lots of silly little boys turned up chanting and screaming at TV.
I suppose that watching their team in a pretty average pub in Beckenham and swearing at the tops of their voices is as exciting as their lives get. Then it's home to their X Boxes. I think it's the lager that ruins these twats that and the lack of vegetables in their diets. Palace lost in the end so was quite amusing.
A nice little fight then broke out between 2 middle aged dudes with one headbutting the other.
The headbutter retired outside the pub for a while while the other dude was restrained by a small women. You know the old 'hold me back, hold me back' scenario. He was screaming 'I'll see you in Beckenham you c***.' As my mate said at the time, 'You're in Beckenham now!'
m going to leave this gaff well alones it's full of' men's men' who always worry me. The majority of them look like King Edward potatoes and the others aren't up to much, so unless you like drinking with these types then go elsewhere.
Strange these proud English men do not seem to be over keen on their national drink - ALE and prefer the lager but you they get confused easily.

Busy yesterday afternoon with football on one TV and rugby on the other. Mostly over 40s crowd. Young's bitter (3.10), Courage Best, Spitfire & Hobgoblin on the pumps.
please disregard my review under this - wrong pub! i was talking about The Jolly Woodman.
THIS pub - we went to afterwards, very bland really, clean enough but miserable barmaid and rave music playing - at 1pm! wtf.
family run - dog behind the bar jumping up and down every time the barman went off to serve sandwhiches......nice enough - very quiet on a Friday lunchtime - certainly one of the more interesting pubs in Beckenham - its not full of chavs which its greatest point!
I like this place. Great beer, very friendly atmosphere, has Sky sports and a Beer garden. What more could you ask for? Best pub in Beckenham
England win the Ashes on Sunday 23rd August !! but unfortunately The Coach and Horses at 3pm just as England turn the screw on the Aussies decide Fulham vs Chelsea is more important "why have you turned over to the football?" I ask....and was met by a rude middle aged barman who doesn't have a clue about the significance of the moment or the other people watching in the pub and replys with "the football's advertised!" It's a shame because it's one of the few good pubs in Beckenham and i won't be going back in a hurry. If only the owners of the Bricklayers would go back and hide under a stone somewhere!

Very expensive pub, the range of Ale was limited to Green King IPA and that sort of rubbish. However the staff were friendly and the place is well looked after. Somewhere to take the in-laws..probably. Night out with Beer afficionados, probably best to avoid. Watched sport in here and the locals were friendly which adds an extra point
I quite like the Coach and Horses, personally. Having said that, I tend to go in when the Rugby is on, so it always has a lively atmosphere and people are very friendly. I'm not sure if it's always like that.
I think they had Courage on when we last went in. I don't remember there being a great range, though.
the coach is a very friendly place great atmosphere the new manager chris star ive recetly started drinking here if it carries on as it is will be there for a long time to come. and the regulars are friendly and polite as well. well done chris and staff keep up the good work.

hi Just want to know if you have the history of this pub please. Ive just found out, whilst researching family history that a relative ran this pub in 1861 - he was called William Wilson - any way of finding out anything about this please. Thanks ever so much Maz

went back 2day again for lunch and yet again happy polite staff and all customers sober!!! and clean looking!!!! and great grub....KEEP IT UP shame other pubs near by cant take a leaf out the C&C book
i went there today for the 1st time with a friend and found it very clean and friendly, the barman was very polite and made us feel very welcome. We both had lunch there and the portions were very generous and very well priced and i must say it the best pub lunch iv had in a very long time. I will definately being going back there.
I went to the pub today just started doing food, good range of food on the menu good choice of vegetarian dishes. Nice back and front gardens, excellent bar staff and management.
Not a bad pub. It's a great place to watch the Football and Rugby and doesn't seem to attract the more aggressive crowd. It doesn't seem to have the greatest range of beers, though- I seem to remember that it was Courage when I last went.
Have enjoyed drinking here for a while now....the new people are nice and the 2 male bar staff fun! Obviously trying to make a go of it by introducing the bonus ball, guess the time of the goal etc and with food now available makes it a little more interesting than the usual foodie places, Mange Tout & Munch! Shame a lot of the regulars have stopped going there because of the price increase but blame Mr Darling & the ex manager & not these people who deserve a go!
I went in last weekend, and enjoyed a few pints, it seems a lot cleaner and less smokey, nice bar staff, over all a nice evening
Shame Tommy and Emma left - this new manager has successfully alienated all of the previous locals, regulars and the younger crowd that used to come in and seems to think he can run the pub for himself and his friends.
What a pity - the pub looks great from outside but I recommend that's the way you see it......
I have been in this pub a few times in the past and have never found anyone cliquey, just seems like a normal local pub, agreed slightly scruffy, but clean, and as is small with low ceilings can be smoky.
Haven't tried the food, will have to give it a go
Wipe Your feet on the way out !!!
Been using this place for over twenty years as one of the retarded beer guts that congregate at the end of the bar and would like to apologise if talking in group with your friends is seen as cliquey but as they say that is the way with a local pub rather than the soulless alcopop warehouses that seem to fill most main streets. It does not have Karaoke or quiz nights or a childrens bar, thank god, it also does not have a drug problem, violence or bouncers, in short an old fashioned pub.
not too bad a place, little bit scruffy with furniture that is obviously just bought from local house clearences or the like. alright though, gets a little smokey if there's a few people smoking, decent enough beer though

It's not a bad little pub, with clean bar, good selection of drinks. Locals a bit cliquey, but that's the way of these places.
A nice pub really, but marred by the loud television, the retarded contingent who congregate at one end of the bar, and the back yard which could be lovely in the summer if somebody actually cared.
Good local pub but too many middle aged fat beer guts blocking the bar
Excellent staff, efficiently run, good food, friendly customers and a lovely pint. Wife's not as impressed though!
A very old coaching inn located in what has now become a backstreet. New management has meant a new lease of life and the return of the regulars. Attractive and friendly bar staff with excellent food served until 8pm.
