Cracking pub - the most south westerly of the UK! Three ales on tap - Sharps Own, Turks head own bitter and Lushingtons Pale Ale. I had several of the latter and well worth it too - especially at £3.40 which is cheap for the Isles of Scilly. Fish and chips were excellent and staff were attentive and cheerful. Recommended if down this way!

Wonderful pub in a lovely location with great views. Choice of about four top class local hand-pulled beers and an excellent menu with choice to cover most tastes - and very tasty too. Highly recommended.

Gem of a pub with fabulous views back over to St Marys. Beer was grand with a couple of regulars and a guest in fine condition. We were only drinking, so no comment on food, but the service was exemplary.

I really do like this pub's location - cosy little rooms but also seating areas outside with views to die for. Beer was good - St. Austell masquerading as Turks Ale but I think the famous pasty didn't warrant its description and certainly not its price!! Still, everything is dearer in this area - you just have to accept it!

We are on the Scillonian, rounding the southern tip of St Marys and coming up The Sound. We catch our first glimpse of the Turks Head in 9 months. It briefly disappears from view as we dock at St Marys, then, it's on the Spirit and off to St Agnes. Familiar faces greet us and it's up the slipway, around the corner and into the Turks. A lovely welcome from Nicki and a welcome pint of Turks Ale. It's sunny, so we sit outside. Nothing has changed, same view, same excellent beer, same excellent, good value food. In the evening if you want to eat, it makes sense to get there before the supper boat arrives or eat after it's gone. Either way it's no problem. This is a really special place, go there and love it! Can't wait for next time!

What a super pub! Very friendly landlord and lanlady, excellent ale and a view to die for. Wonderfull!

Having visited St Agnes last year and we stayed in a B&B I felt compelled to write as I disagreed with some previous postings. The weather for the week was not brilliant, so our evenings were spent in the wonderful Turks Head Pub. We ate there most times and we found the menu varied, with local produce used as much as possible. The Ales was always good with a good variety. The local Scuppered went down a treat. The Landlady was so accommodating and I noticed she was handing out towels to some wet visitors! When the sun came out we took advantage of the outside seating, the views were amazing, we felt we were in heaven. I suppose the Islands get swamped in the height of the seasons and there will always be someone who complains - I bet those who do never approached the Management before they express their opinions on these Websites! I reccommend this Pub, the Ales, Food, Service is just the best!

I too visited the Turks on 29th August...and also had the Salmon, mussels etc! The menu was interesting and the food was good. Service was excellent, as was the beer. During my stay they served Sharps Special, IPA and Doombar, Turks Ale, which is in fact St.Austell Tribute and a beer from the Ales of Scilly brewery on St Marys. I,ve been to the pub many times over the years and its alwats been good. I must disagree with a previous poster about the new owners. Nicki is a perfect hostess and is always welcoming.

I disagree with previous reviews - indeed I was almost put off visiting this pub, however on Friday 29 August I had an excellent evening meal at a very reasonable price - kids meal was good. I had an excellent piece of salmon with prawns, mussels etc for 10. Fast service. No complaints. The beer was Tribute and good, choice of glasses of wine which were good value and yes the beer is a 1 more expensive than mainland prices but it does have to travel on two boats to get to the island. Blame the Isles of Scilly carriers for the higher prices.

Visited this pub in 2006 and was extremely impressed with quality of the food and the ale. I did highly recommended it and couldn't wait to return to the island this year. However, just returned from 2 weeks in St Agnes and had to spend most evenings in the Turks for our evening meal (no other pub on the island) BUT owners had changed since the last visit and the food was very disappointing. Very bland meals, no starters, chips tasteless, steak tough and undercooked every time, menu unexiting, no local produce used, uht milk served with coffee and service very slow. No beer mats and tables weren't cleaned until late in the evening. No thought into menu or pesentation and general area outside needed some tlc. Would not recommend for food but views outside are spectacular. The potential is clearly being missed by the owners and it could do so much more with a little thought and effort. Shame.

re-visited in July 2008. Pasties were delicious as were the crab rolls. Turk's Ale on tap as well as a regular guest ale - in this case 'Ginger Tosser' (honestly!).
Oherwise, just as good as ever with fantastic views, very polite and prompt service and friendly atmosphere.
Only advice is to time your arrival. If it coincides with a tripper boat coming over you may have to wait to get served. If you are on the tripper boat then my advice is get off first and jog up the hill to the pub to beat the crowd.

This pub has a spectacular location on a wonderfully relaxing island and I really want to love it (and did on last visit) BUT I have gripes! 1) Food reputed to be the best on all the island pubs but it really wasn't great at all - the fish and chips was obviously frozen and from a packet which is a crime in such a place. 2) Service very obviously biased to locals. i know this is something that happens everywhere, but to be told by the landlady that our curry didn't come with all the trimmings and wasn't as big as that on the next table because "She's one of the locals" is not on at all. Yes it is wasy better generally than New Inn on Tresco (which is a holiday resort really, not a pub) but not nearly as good as it ought to be.
|
Island: the most southerly of the main islands peaceful without being particularly spectacular. We arrived after the tour of Annet, Western Isles and Bishop Rock Lighthouse which can all being easily viewed from the island. Pub: Spent time outside having arrived with everyone else off the boat. Unlike Tresco the staff were taking orders as fast as they could and food arrived without too long a wait. They are obviously used to people arriving by the boatload as there is a daily boat trip for supper from St Marys. Looked fine inside. Beer: Well kept from Skinners and St Austell Food: We had the seafood platter with plenty of smoked salmon, prawns and mackeral. Much more pleasing than the New Inn on Tresco.

Fantastic location, wish it was my local! Food is a bit expensive, but who cares?

Amazing views and well kept beer. Very friendly sparrows. Great to kayak to.

Beautiful surroundings, a lot cheaper than the New Inn on Tresco (where isn't). Had to wait quite a while for food, which is a shame if you have to get a tripper boat home early. Well kept Guiness made up for it though

Many years since I was there, but still rates as my all-time favourite. Still have the T-shirt!
|
A truly special pub. A good ever changing selection of real ales. I dont think its overly expensive and if it was there's a good reason for that isn't there? Its not exactly easy to get to, sometimes immpossible.

A wonderful pub with a cheerful landlord and a great atmosphere. The food is good but a little pricey. The Turk's Ale is highly recommended.

its the most fantastical pub in the world, the atmospheres great, the people are the nicest, its a proper ye olde style with war hats everywhere, the view is beautiful, and for the lads, the beers greats, they got real ales an everything!
Ok so I used to work there, my views a little biased but it is a great place, bit inaccessible, but it better that way, dont want too many people finding it :o)
Though, last time I checked it looked back towards the other islands and not out to america, the other islands are much prettier anyways

The most south westerly pub in Great Britain! A nice pub with St Austell beers that have the finings added at the pub to clear the beer. A fantastic view! Looking out to sea, it's next stop America! Good food too makes this pub a nice place to sit and relax after a good walk around the island.
