As a tourist looking for an authentic british pub, look no further. This place is filled with people who treat you like family. The beer is excellent, but honestly the food is even better its fantastic. When I came to this area I wanted a place that I would feel at home with during my stay, and I found it. If your in the area and you dont stop in, your making a big mistake

The Monkey Puzzle is a fantastic place for a drink as well as food. There is a great atmosphere inside, as well as outside in the garden, with happy staff and good background music. The landlord always present to welcome you and to make sure that you are being well looked after. Highly recommended any time during the day or evening. A must go!

This pub was unfortunately dreary and unexciting. The beer was ok but beyond that, I can't say much about this other than we left before finishing our drinks.

Two students from Oxford- stopped in for a drink and dinner before catching the train 2 blocks away from Paddington home. Though the pubs atmosphere was both inviting, warm, and conducive to lots of good conversation. Great dinner as well, had the pie special of the day, and a pint (or two) of the HB. Both the food and beer were reasonably priced- best part. Great location (esp for train travelers via PAD), friendly staff, great atmosphere.

I'm sorry, but if you live in Bath and can't find antthing better than Badger, than you really ought to get out more!

Sitting in the beer garden right now on a brilliant Monday evening with the sun beating down. Was at the Fountain, but the 3 minute stroll was paid back hansomely by the Badger on tap. I live in Bath and survive on Badger, so finding this pub is a delight for my frequent London trips.

The Monkey Puzzle is an old after-work haunt of mine. Hasn't changed much over the years. Pleasant and relaxed, if unremarkable.
@CKelly: Well I for one am glad it's not "dog friendly". Why do you think you should be able to impose your foul smelly pet on everyone else. It's bad enough having to step around the pooh on the pavements.
|
This pub is NOT DOG FRIENDLY, despite what it says here and on several other websites. We turned up with our pup to meet some friends, after checking to see if it was dog friendly, and were told me had to keep him outside by the barmaid. We told her we had checked online and showed her the websites but she said that is only for the beer garden (as far as I'm aware there's not a single pub that does not allow a well behaved dog in it's beer garden so it's not what I would class as dog friendly).
We finished the drinks we'd already bought in the beer garden and moved on to one of the many other pubs in the area which we knew accepts dogs.
Other than that it is a nice pub with a lovely beer garden when it's warm.

Very nice location. Typical British style inside. Big terrace with sun untill 7.00PM in summer. Beer available: badger smooth, pride, Guinness, HK, heineken good food as well. Sometimes you could expect a smile from the barmaids :)

A very friendly posh estate pub, HB lager on draught and a fantastic map of olde london on the back wall. Not a bad little pub if you are in the area.
|
Was initially put off by some Chav looking folk hanging around a DJ wannabe but no drama and volume kept down to a drinker-friendly level. Top marks for nicely kept Badger Ales. Good for people watching. Look for a brass on the corner if you're outside...

I visited this pub a few months ago after a corporate night out at Madame Tussaurds. We turned up quite late but the manager was really helpful and let us have the Bailey's that my friend and I were craving! He was really friendly and the pub, although pretty much closed at that time seemed to have a nice atmosphere. There's a garden that would be great for a summer's afternoon!

Located on south side of Sussex Gardens street. Outside area towards the street, but quite relaxing. Also lots of indoor space. Went there several times with some friends last week. They had Tanglefoot and a couple of Badger's real bitter, and the Tanglefoot was very good. Staff seemed friendly. The only dissappointing side was their BBQ meals; tiny portions concisting of a small piece of meat with some vegetables served on a paper plate.
|
Not been to this pub for awhile, The staff were friendly, a nice young Spanish girl served us. A reasonable mix of people and we enjoyed the early part of the evening, had a good natter with some of the locals. Being honest the evening was spoilt when I think the owner turned up, Just ignored everyone including his staff and was only interested in the cash register. It would not have been a problem except he seemed to be worse the ware and caused an atmosphere.

the monkey puzzle has been a great pub for many years. the sunday bbq is the best deal in town. this is a great place to relax and make new friends as we have done whenever we come to london. a truly one of a kind place to go--thanks

Fab pub with excellent management. I've lived in the area for the past five years but only discovered this place after a change in management. There's a good choice of ales and a decent wine list. The food is very popular too with a weekly BBQ throughout most of the year. If you want the standard rough treatment and half hearted welcome then this is not the place for you. On the other hand if you're looking for a friendly pub with a relaxed atmosphere and great service you may want to pay this place a visit.

I was in this pub over the weekend to watch the rugby with a friend and had a really fun evening. Great atmosphere, really friendly landlord who made us very welcome. The BBQ was delicious and plentiful and you can sit outside in the beer garden.

This is always a fun and lively pub in the evenings. I am always drawn-in here by the delicious aroma of BBQ which is a super-value meat-fest. They have imported German beer and the management and staff are always super friendly and ultra-efficient. If, like me, you are a smoker, there is a semi-covered area in the beer garden to reek in a sub-tropical botanical atmosphere.

If you like big TV then this is a pub for you. It's as cosy as a B&Q superstore, yet serves very good Badger and Tanglefoot. The house wines are OK too. Don't be put off though, good BBQ's and it attracts a decent crowd. Staff OK, if a bit scary.
|
Good pub - had the BBQ food last night and it was great food and lots of it - really good value. Great Badger brewery beers, and good service made it a really fun evening. Lots of tables outside, and big screens both outside and in, mean everyone's happy.
|
good pub, friendly staff and half decent food, good foe sitting out in the summer.
|
Nice pub Badger beers, an oasis, just of the Edgware rd.
|
I was walking past this establishment and thought it might be a good bet for some decent grub! How wrong i was, the service was poor, the food was crap and it has a wierd stench.... like an unbathed Old Lady!

The First Rule of Monkey Puzzle Is you do not talk about the Monkey Puzzle
The second rule of Monkey Puzzle is, you DO NOT talk about the Monkey Puzzle
#3 - If someone says stop, goes limp, taps out, that means we've probably ended up in The Heron
#4 - Two guys each side a table of four
#5 - One meal at a time.
#6 - No veggies, no vegans
#7 - Lunch will go on as long as it has to. #8 - If this is your first lunch at Monkey Puzzle, you have to eat!
|
The best for Food round the area without doubt. Great service and always well cooked and you can sit outside on a sunny day.
