Came here the other evening after work and found it relatively quiet at 6pm - you could find a seat on a shared table which was fine. However, out of the possible three ales one was finished and the other two were poor. I had to return the first pint and settled for a London Pride which Fullers would not be happy about given that it was over cooled to hide its poor condition - avoid unless you like larger!

2 room pub on the corner in Shepherd's Market.
First visit early evening on a Thursday, pretty busy with local (posh) workers.
4 ales on hand pump, my chosen beer was Portobello Star @ 4.3%, a decent if not slightly yeasty pint.
Rather stale atmosphere, most punters in pairs and talking amongst their selves.
Nice traditional pub but it needs an atmosphere.

This place seems to have got a bit better. Nice guest beers from Tiny Rebel and Saltaire (even if it was their choc beer) and friendly service in this simple london boozer. Didn't try the food, there are more interesting options around, but as an ordinary pub pretty good.

A small traditional pub at the west end of Shepherds Market, Shepherd's Tavern is probably the best of the 4 pubs in the market area. The bar area is fairly small with 10 or so tables and a few high stools. I was in on a Thursday lunchtime and most of the other customers were couples or small groups eating appetising looking lunches. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed and it was definitely a pleasant place to pass an hour or so reading the paper.
Ales on offer werre Youngs, Bombardier, Spitfire and Broadside.
I am not sure what this place would be like in the evenings - the market area is pretty popular for after work eating and drinking and the restricted space here may mean the bar area is quite cramped but other than that I would have no hesitation in recommending this pub for eaters and drinkers.

Smallish single bar Punch Taverns pub set on a street corner within a stone's throw of Shepherds Market.
It's rather unremarkable internally with a bare boarded interior and a mixture of banquettes and wooden seating. There's a reasonable amount of woodwork, but nothing really that is memorable in any way.
Like most pubs round here seemingly, it's very much pitching for food trade from passing tourists and a standard pub menu is offered throughout the day.
There's an upstairs restaurant which the pub describes as being housed in "a large antique pine panelled room".
On my recent Saturday lunchtime visit, beers on were London Pride - 3.27p - and Greene King IPA at 2.50p. A third pump had its clip reversed. The London Pride was reasonable, but not good enough to stop me thinking that I should have gone for the 77p cheaper IPA. I did notice quite a few framed Cask Marque certificates behind the bar.
I'm not marking this one down for an early return visit.

Single room pub adjacent to the Curzon Mayfair which myself and a friend ducked into after a film. Pride, Courage Directors and Bombardier on cask, and rather disappointingly a music channel was on the telly rather than soccer saturday. If I was in the area again, I'd give it a swerve and duck into the Market Tavern nearby as it has a better selection of ales.

Nice pub exterior/ interior & good location. That's all the good points. I have to agree with previous reviews - the service is terrible. We (group of 6) arrive for a pub lunch on a Friday at 12.30 - then were told the kitchen is closed for another 20mins. We got the impression the staff don't give a sh$t - the barmaids are rude, the food when it eventually arrived was poor & cold. Not going here again, plenty more pubs in Mayfair to go to - shame. This place clearly needs a new manager & some decent staff then it might be ok.

Good location and attractive exterior. Pity about the rest. I give this pub a sero rating for it's poor quality of food and the lack of customer service.
We were a party of about 12 people, all wanting drinks and food on Sunday 11 October. Although on the menu, there was no roast of the day and, although the pub wasn't particularly busy, we waited an hour for our meals which included a very mediocre microwaved steak pie and chips and a tepid Thai prawn curry that rivalled any supermarket ready meal for it's chemically enhanced flavour. Half of our food order was served to the adjoining table which resulted in an even longer wait for some of us.
We ordered 4 pints of strongbow and were served Kronenberg which the bar staff refused to change, claiming it was our fault for not watching what was being served. There was no manager or anyone else in authority to take this up with. As we were preparing to leave to go elsewhere, they did offer to replace the drinks but needless to say we took our custom elsewhere and won't be returning. Nor would I recommend this pub to anyone else. A very poor service indeed.

Theres nothing spectacular about this pub and it is a lot quieter than its peers, partly due to its location just off the main square and also due to it being very average.
The Spitfire was off, but Pride and Greene King IPA were available alongside Staropramen, Leffe and a standard draught selection. Theres not really much to the pub and although there is a plasma screen there are no sports shown on Sky. Even standing on the pavement outside isnt the nicest experience due to umpteen black cabs whizzing around the back streets.
I didnt have any problems with the staff, but Ill still not bother with this place again.

Possibly the least satisfactory of the four Shepherd Market pubs I visited. Had some food there but the menu was baffling - if there is a 'sausage of the day' why is it not allowed to have it in a bun, eh? Shepherd Neame beer on (though this is not a Shep Neame pub as far as I know). Average.

A real shame, this one. As has been said, a good location but a very poor pub. Extremely grubby, with limited and shabby seating, poorly arranged.
My pint of London Pride was OK, and on my visit the barmaid who served me was at least polite, but I could bring myself to have another beer here and so drank up and left.
Badly needs a renovation.

I have to agree with most of the other reviews, great location, poor, dirty and untidy inside. Very average pint of GK IPA altogether a pretty uninspiring visit. Varied mix of customers from suits to tourists to builders. The staff whilest not offensive were not exactly welcoming. Surely lessons to be learnt here Spirit Group ?

Good location near Shepherd Market, looks OK inside and out, beer (London Pride on this occasion) perfectly acceptable, but - yes - most that you read below about the staff in this place in correct in my experience...

Why dosen't Boris Johnson open a dueling field on Hyde Park, so all the disgruntled customers who have suffered rude and indifferent service, (from all pubs and bars) be allowed to challenge said individuels to a duel. Indeed this is a shocker of a pub it is a pisshole par excellence. Great location, grotty decor, plastic drinks and disinterested bar staff, it's little wonder that the pub trade is dying a slow and undignified death.

Just got back from London yesterday and I couldn't wait to write this review. This pub was just a few blocks away from the hotel so I tried it,(even after reading the bad reviews). The bad reviews were kind to this pub! This pub's staff were horrible. The blonde girl behind the counter had a less than friendly attitude and the guy actually tried to talk us into leaving! Walked out within minutes of entering, not eben willling to try a pint after that those attitudes. STAY AWAY!

surly bar staff, bad pub in a good location. shame

Turned up hungry, left late and annoyed.
Come for beer, not for food. Pub food service around here is not good generally, so do your eating somewhere like the nearby Sofra restaurant and stick to liquid refreshment at the Tavern.
The Tavern's beer (eg London Pride) is delicious, however on a recent visit, it took 1 hour 15 minutes for our lunch to arrive, and we were only offered 10% discount as compensation (after some discussion).

This pub is part of the same chain as the Kings Arms round the corner next to the Grapes. Please please dont go out of your way to go to these pubs. The buildings are lovely but the food is microwaved and the worst I have tased for a very long time. I asked the staff to recommend a good local ale/beer and she sarted to tell me the beer and largers that she had. Our food was dumped down - dry - all of it - plastic left in it..the waitress ran off even though we were THE ONLY PEOPLE EATING and my boyfried asked for mayonaise. None arrived until he had waited then decided to finish his dry chicken burger. The waitress apologied BUT SHE WENT onto say" You didnt mention when I put food down soooo" We hadnt said a word about the mayonsise it was obviuos whole place is dire so when she then tried to say it was our fault my boyrfiedn didnt get his mayonaise really riled me. Dreadful - please dont eat here - I wish I had gone to cafe or sandwhich shop - at least fresh! We were lucky though at least they could use the microwave quickly in The Shepards Tavern, we initially went to the Kings Arms where it was packed but people were clamouring at the bar saying they had waited over 2 hours YES TWO HOURS for one course to arrive! ( MYabe the microave there had blown a fuse!). Lovely buildings both of them but please vote with feet and say NO to this chain that has destryoed two lovely pubs.

Have been twice for beer and fish and chips and enjoyed it both times. Lots of tourists.

was in here a couple of weeks ago, won't be back, serious attitude from manager type girl who doesn't seem to realise when a customer asks for a pint that is exactly what is meant. food was pretty poor as well considering the price. there are much better places to go nearby

Best pub in the area by a long shot!!!
Good beers, good staff, didn't have to wait too long considering how busy it was and great company with the regulars! Food is normal Scottish and Newcastle stuff you can get in any other S&N pub in London but more expensive (it IS Mayfair, y'know!!) but I just wanted a drink not to take the missus out (and I wouldn't bring her here for a meal!!) All in all a good pub if a pub is what you expect!

racist bar staff, especially the women. too busy flirting with the american tourists, therefore will not ger served. boring pub compared to what else is available in the area. will not go again.
