Quite right marinetank0. The Abbot Ale's the best pint ever and all the real ales are perfectly kept. You can't beat this pub if you appreciate beer!!
|
beer in excellent order, poor sod doesnt have ale/bitter pumps so has to walk into the kitchen to get ye ale/bitter nice place tho

Felt out of place in here, didnt feel welcomed, took me ages to get served too, seemed i didnt exist, and trying to get a smile out of the landlord was unreal..very strange pub, seemed to be a bit of a, if your face fits pub..It was like being in a scene from waking the dead really... wouldnt go back and the toilet facilities werent that clean either... i wouldnt recommend this pub, i certainly wouldnt go in there again...

Nice pub serving local Tring beers, the Colley's Dog I had was lovely (though strong!). Great location with a large cow's field at the back but they didn't seem to be making the most of it as the marque they had up conceals the view which is a shame. Mind you, they have an interesting little aviary out the back which is unusual and nicely done.

Popped in this weekend for a swift couple. Beer well kept and made to feel welcome by the landlord. Would recommend.

The Green Man has always been a bit of a locals' joint where occasional visitors can feel a little out-of-place, but the barman took this to an extraordinary extreme last Friday evening when he treated my (female) companion with utter contempt.
Not only did he serve all the locals before her (even ones who just walked in the door while she was still waiting) but he also took a delivery and had a chinwag with the driver before deigning to serve her. Then, when he did condescend to take her money, he did so whilst rudely holding a conversation over his shoulder with someone at the other end of the bar.
We may not be locals, but we only live about a mile away and we did visit regularly if not frequently. No more.
Also, the beer selection is still deadly dull. 4/10, mostly for the lovely birds in the aviary.

What a little gem of a place, with a good local crowd and beer in excellent condition, and a range of "craft ciders" to boot. I had a couple of pints on the patio enjoying the sunsetting over the trees in the distance, the very best of British.
|
I often come here for a pint or two after work - the Black Sheep is a particular favourite of mine and is always in good condition. Friendly enough manager/landlord and regulars. Nice selection of ciders available on my last visit. Can't comment on the food. 7/10

The smaller of the three pubs in Sandridge but with mainly the same lunchtime clientele, Sandridges aged populace either dining out or meeting with friends. The pub does have quite a nice community feel to it and is well looked after. There are both covered and uncovered seating areas outside looking out across the fields. Strangely the car park appeared to have more cars than the pub had patrons. Beers were GK IPA. OSH and Black Sheep. There were posters and beermats advertising the St Albans Beer Festival and the landlord has a festival shirt on so I imagine they are supporters of the event.

I walked past this pub just now and noticed that it's open all day. I think this is a recent development? Good good good!!

I like the nice young barman!

Have to give it a 10 as this was my local for a good while and i've only just moved away from sandridge. When i moved in i was made welcome by mike and laura on my very first visit and have made lost of friends since. This pub got me started playing darts and now i'm becoming succesful. No team this season but i'm sure there will be next. Lagers always taste how they should and the atmosphere is always pleasant. Food is superb (ham, egg and chips best ive ever had!). If your passing through sandridge be sure to visit!

Friendly locals pub.Beer choice is very ordinary(3 nationaly available brands), so why is it in the 'Good Beer Guide'?Big downside was the cost of my girlfriend's blackcurrant & soda - 1.50(60p is normal for the area).

Agree completely with last post. Really nice pub, and beer, but selection was a but uninspiring, although very well kept, best pint of Abbot I have ever had! I will be back.
|
I'd heard many good things about this pub, but was actually a bit disappointed by the reality. The beer quality was superb - it's served here straight from the cask - but the choice of Deuchars, Greene King IPA and Abbots (the Youngs Bitter wasn't available) didn't strike me as very exciting. Did I miss something? Still, the service was very welcoming and the menu looked good.

reasonable beer was ok pub seems friendly just a bit too out of the way to visit too often
|
A nice little local with some decent ales on, well worth a visit!
|
If you do order food, please could you order before 2:30pm as the chef does get very stressed and then takes it out on me when she gets home. Thank You. David ( son of landlord )

Food is always good, home cooked by Lesley. The Nevada Pete special and Lesley's chilli are my favourites. Great beers and children friendly. Michael is always welcoming

A relaxed locals' pub. Received a friendly welcome, which is always appreciated. 5 real ales: Abbot, Deuchars, Tetley, IPA and Rosey Nosey. Apparently they serve food as well, although there was none at the time of my visit. Overall quite pleasant.

4 real ales generally on, some of which (Braodside, Batemans XXB etc) served by gracity dispense direct from the cellar.

Of the three pubs in Sandridge the Green Man is the locals local. Landlord Mike Eames always has a smile and a fine selection of real ales. Home cooked food is recommended especially Sunday Lunch.
