This pub is closed and has reopened as a Wetherspoons called 'The Tailor's Chalk with effect from 24 April 2009

Opening Friday 24th.

Have heard that Wetherspoon's is to take-over the Hogshead Is that true?

Was in Sidcup High Street this morning and noticed that the Hogshead was shut? Has the pub been closed permanently or temporarily for refurbishment? If closed permanently, no great loss.

I remember when the Hogshead opened up (six years ago?) and there was an excellent selection of beer most of which was served straight from the barrel. The pub was always busy and there was a great atmosphere. What went wrong? There is now no decent beer on tap; the pub isn't busy and the atmosphere is terrible. Don't people who work in and manage pubs realise that they are part of the service industry. If people don't get the service they expect they will move elsewhere. The pub industry is in a bad state and staff have to make the effort to halt the decline.

Sidcup's crying out for a decent pub and this isn't it. The place is dreadful. The bar staff are friendly, at least the female one's are. The manageress, Carla (yes she warrants having her name mentioned), is without doubt the rudest, most surly and un-professional bar manager I have ever encountered. The real ales are seldom on. The dcor is atrocious. The toilets are a health risk - they've only recently put doors on the cubicles - that should give you the measure of the place! The food is horrible. The tables are sticky. There is nothing to recommend this place at all. Go to the portrait unless it's Friday or Saturday night or the footie's on.

Revisited Sat.evening. No fire lit, the whole place was cold and windswept. Only one barman doing his best, two real ales off, mmmm give it a few more weeks to improve and light the fire.

This pub is a bit of a mixed bag. A bit woody, and in the corner, leather chairs around a gas log fire, very cosy. Bit of a drag getting up the stairs for a wee wee especially when you have had a few jars of real ale. Sure, needs some refurbishment, but if I can sit next to the fire all night, than its ok for me.

Best pub on the high street. Well to be honest not a hard one to achieve. The Hogshead really could do with a refurbishment. I remember when this place first opened it was banged out most friday and saturdays. On my last visit it was dirty, rundown and requiring a good scrub down and a lick of paint. That said the atmosphere and punters in here are a cut above whats found up the street.

i worked there from april 2005 till april 2006 and it was better then. i still drop in occasionally but it is not as good as back then. the new manager (ben) is a nice bloke. but to be honest the pub needs a good refurbishment to sort it out. rather than music nights and new staff. because staff come and go. its the customers and the general ambience that draws you back. This is what the hogs head does struggle at sometimes. However i would still go there for a drink.

Whatever has been said previously about this pub in the past, there's a new manager in there now and a lot has changed/is changing. I know the people at the pub, so I won't blatently advertise, but: * The doorstaff are a licence requirement, nothing else. * It's not a 'kid's pub - maybe it used to be, but it's more a Students pub now, that said, you get quite a mixed crowd in there, which is good news for everybody. The 'vibe' is much better. * The regular Thursday 'Rock' nights have live bands on some nights. * The Theme nights take place pretty much once a month. * The bar staff are some of the best I've seen, always smiling, even when its busy, and enter into the spirit the events, dressing up and dancing on the bar!!! * A tough line on 'unacceptable behaviour' has rooted a few people out, and changed the face of the place for the better. In short, depending on the time of day you visit, The Hog a place to chill, have something to eat, catch a game or have a noisy night out and party!

I don't particularly like this pub very much. Yes, it's bland and boring, but the main problem for me was that I found it to be a little too crammed in, so heaven knows what it feels like to be in here on a Friday or Saturday night. The food is okay though and reasonably priced.

It's a 'kids' pub. Packed most weekends with young exhuberant half dressed ladies and equally wired young men preened to the full in the earnest hope they will capture the woman of their 'dreams' for a night of illicit coupling. Having said that it's not a bad pub if you are young and want to listen to loud music and crowds, there has been some trouble there but no more than your average young haunt. During the week in the summer the huge glass doors are thrown open to try and capture some of that Parisian feel for drinking and eating. It does fall somewhere short of that but is pleasant enough on a weekday lunch time, price average for drinks. No disabled facilities at this time.

Bouncers on the door weekend evenings, need I say more!

Slightly dank and suffers from frequent managemnt changes but still cheapest in sidcup High street. Good Guinness, though they don't always pour it properly. Poor food

Part of the Hogshead chain, this is an alright pub, has potential for late licences as it did so on New Years Eve and Xmas Eve. Has Sky for football and a pool table. Lack of a quiz machine disappoints me! Drinks are a bit cheaper than the Portrait. Overall, an ok pub.
