user reviews of the Green Man, Wembley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Unlike the better pubs of Sheffield, which are at the bottom of a hill, this one here in London is on the top. A surprisingly steep and high one it is for this part of the world too. Given the choice, I prefer it this way round, I'd say. On a clear day, you can see a remarkably long way from the garden, picking out Epsom racecourse, for instance.

On non-event days, the pub is frequented by a relaxed mix of customers from the the well-mixed residential surroundings, and quite pleasant it is for that.

I was cheered to see Tetley's on offer. It seemed to be far better kept than the pints that I have often had in Leeds, incidentally. I thought that the sensibly sparing use of the sparkler probably helped as well. Make what one will of that, eh?

There seems to be little else in Wembley, and so yours truly gives an appreciative seven-out-of-ten, in large part simply for this pub's being here.

excellent time spent in here before and after league 2 playoff final with the wombles.green king pub,so not a lot of choice for ales.staff were excellent and well prepared for the mass of fans.bit of a hill up to the pub!a few of my friends enjoyed the jager dollies!

Not quite sure if this place knows what it wants to be. A decent enough Sunday roast, but their website advert of "We have a large selection of lagers & real ales to suit all tastes" didn't quite live up to expectations.... three handpumps on the bar, only one had a pump clip on (Doombar) and that was off!

There's not much else in the area, and so it's worth the walk up the hill for an acceptable pint of real ale.

The food's pretty standard British pub stuff, but OK enough.

It seems to attract a representative range of customers from a fairly cosmopolitan though unpretentious area.

Last dropped in before the Team GB game the other Sunday, plenty of staff , but not much change out of a tenner for a bottle of Becks and a pint of Carlsberg ! Grub was fine. The most useful thing about this place is that it is there in the first place, nothing to write home about about but we have all been to far worse establishments.

Unlike most, my visit had nothing to do with football at Wembley - instead it was because I was going to see ZZ Top at Wembley Arena. The place was recommended by a football loving friend who had been there on match days. Quite a large pub with a big car park - which was virtually full in spite of there only being a handful of people in the pub - go figure! I was obvious that most of the people in the pub had just come from the gig I had been to. Can't comment on the quality of the ales as I was driving, but the staff seemed a bit disinterested and a Red Bull and a packet of crisps was quite expensive. Otherwise, not a bad place to drop in for a bit of refreshment while winding down before the drive home.

Was hoping for more from this pub after the utter dross on Wembley high street, but was sadly dissappointed. The food and beer was Ok, but nothing to get excited about. Bombardier, Tetley and Courage on draught as well as dozens of lagers, non of which were very well kept. The Bombardier had a particular aroma, akin to sweaty socks. I got really excited when I saw Halibut on the menu, but was less than happy with the slither of over cooked fish that turned up covered in sweet chillie sauce. First and probably last visit me thinks.

have been to the green man 3 times with chelsea, and once with england, when we are playing at wembley.

average pub, but its got a decent open plan on mtachdays and a realyl good large covered smoking area outback which means you can create some really good atmosphere.

will be going back againfor the fa cup semis (at least) this year.

So, OK, I was at the Green Man recently on a quiet Thursday night. Good beer, good grub, followed by a stumble down the hill to my hotel room before flying home the next day. I found the pub relaxed and friendly, the beer reasonably priced for England (ie, just eye-wateringly expensive), and the mixed grill substantial. Since nobody goes to Wembley for the atmosphere, this pub was a pleasant surprise

Very dissapointing, slow service and it was not that busy - helps if your known as then there seems to be no queue! Beer not kept that well, stick to spirits or bottles if you decide to visit. I won't be going again.

The climb up the hill should get you in the mood for a pint here and it does seem strange to find such a huge pub in this residential backwater, even given the proximity of the Wembley Stadium complex. Set back from the road in acres of car parking space, this place would have been built at around the time of the stadium when Wembley started expanding after the original stadium was built. Not unlike today, it primarily caters for people using the Wembley complex and the interior is definitely built for numbers with most of the interior walls being taken out to make one large walk through bar although there is a small sofa area in a conservatory off to one side. Given the poor standard of pubs in the area, this is one of the better options, although that is not specifically a recommendation. 3 not exactly earth shattering Ales (Tetleys, Green King IPA & Youngs) although quality and availability are not to be counted on. On the plus side, you can generally get served relatively quickly and, despite being off the beaten track, it does get packed on event days although on a good day there is plenty of space in the huge beer garden with its superb views. Other than that it is an average, functional pub with the usual pub paraphernalia that you really wouldnt go out of the way for. There is one major final downside. On stadium event days they cash in on the crowds by hiking up the beer prices, a practice I find particularly exploitive although it should be said that they are not the only culprits in the area. Drinking in Wembley is hardly a pleasure at the best of times and if a pub wishes to treat its customer base with such greed and contempt then it just makes me vow not to return.

Been here a couple of times now. Last night was the first time I was able to enjoy the beer garden.
Well maintained lawn. Nicely-tended trees, and a great view of THE stadium.
2.60 for Carlsberg / Carling / Fosters.
Friendly staff and hidden away enough so that it feels quite rural.
Will definately visit again.

Watched Chelsea lift the Cup and then went drinking here. Up a hill and overlooking the stadium, this place has big beer garden and seems to cope well with postmatch throng.

Stayed here recently. Bed was like a bag of springs and the bathroom door had been kicked in. Still it was cheap.
Found the bar staff good but the bar manager ignorant. Preference given to locals.

Visited pub on a 'Wembley' event night, service was prompt. Beer range limited. Didn't order any food. One of the better pubs near the Wembley complex.

Great in Summer with a huge garden. Food is excellent and reasonable prices. Avoid the place on any "Wembley" Event Nights - us locals don't go there!
