I have to say that my recent visits have put me off. Don't know what's happened! sadly this pub is not going in the right direction.

once again this pub has gone downhill now that again there are new owners. they seem to be trying hard but not succeeding and unfortunately its showing. I really hope they can turn things around but I wont be going back in for a while until I hear better reports. come back harvey and james!

What a great real beer AND cider pub to discover in Nottingham. I visited with some friends last week, and was blown away with the choice available on pump. I tried "Solar Power" from Purbeck which was absolutely amazing and "Purity" from Ubu also amazing, my mate tried Black Dragon Cider and had more than one pint! If all pubs were like this one, with beer and cider as it should be, in excellent condition, then the customers would return time and time again. Great atmosphere too, friendly knowledgeable staff, i'll definately be visiting again and taking more friends. 10/10 deserved!

I absolutely love this place. brilliant space, always a nice atmosphere around the bar. The new landlords know what theyre doing with the real ales and ciders and theres always a good selection available. Ive even seen a couple of decent bands down there recently. this pub deserves to be more well known than it is...really worth a visit!!

Hadn't visisted this pub for a few years due to average selection of beers and service! Been a few times now and pleased to say the new landlords have really turned this place around, Great Beers and impressive real Ciders on pumps, excellent quality and really great atmosphere has returned, will definately be visiting again soon.
|
Have been in twice recently and the new owners are making a great job of it. There were 5 or 6 ales plus 2 ciders and a perry last evening. The Oakham and Blue Monkey beers were in abolutely tip-top condition!
|
Used to be great, and kept the beer at its best. Something's been going down lately though. Beer now of much lower quality, and tendancy to play "the greatest hits of utter shite dance 1994" during the day.

Overlooked gem on Carlton Road. This tardis-like pub places emphasis on real-ale and milds and serves an above-average range as well as the usual lagers and bitters. I usually pop in there early evening for a pint of whatever I fancy and a bag of pork scratchings. I believe they serve cooked food at lunchtime, but this is a beer-based pub as opposed to a food one.

this pub is rock n roll

I did not know about the change of hands and refurbishment when I visited last Saturday, although I had wondered why it wasn't in the new Good Beer Guide. Although the refurb has spoilt it a bit, it could have been so much worse. I only had time to try one of the 8 real ales on offer and this was excellent. The staff and customers were very friendly.
|
Under new management yet again. Still a good range of real ales and an excellent Sunday night quiz - but the jury is still out on the new manager.

Been in for the first time in nearly 4 years, and while the decor has changed, it was still a nice pint, and was made to feel welcome.
|
Yes I agree. This place has gone to the Dogs. It used to be a nice old eccentric pub and now it has just turned into a horrible chain pub like any other, with loud music, offensive decor and lighting, and a different atmosphere to the relaxed supping it used to be. We went there once and once only after the renovation (5 or 6 months ago now?), and have NEVER stepped foot back in there since.
|
I like the new decor, and the beer range is among the best in the City! It is now called just "The Moot", and has a great Sunday night general knowledge quiz and Thursday music quiz.

i used to absolutely love this place, with its red and black chairs, back gammon and the fact it felt like a musty old village hall when you walked through the ominous black doors. the refurb has taken the soul out of this place. the lights are too bright and look like they were stolen from a harvester restaurant. the music is too loud, and kylie and the chemical brothers ain't what i go to the pub for. staff refused to turn it down. the comfy couches look like they came from a P&O ferry and take over the place. what a cryin' shame - why do pub chains insist on ruining great places?

THIS BAR IS NO LONGER A TOM WOODS PUB. THE RANGE OF ALES SEEMS BETTER FOR THIS AND THE PRICES HAVE REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY (1.90 FOR A PINT OF OAKHAM JHB!) STILL WORTH A TRY.

four of us went in last week. [first time since i posted last comment]. Has ANOTHER new manager [Tom Woods pub still ]. John, the barman/cellarman is leaving. Had to return a not too good cloudy pint, reaction from new manager not too friendly. Atmosphere seemed fraught. Never thought I'd say this but will give the pub a miss when next in Nottingham.

Great place. Friendly staff. Fantastic selection of ales. Atmosphere is spot on plus they have a plasma screen for the Cricket and Rugby.
Only thing stopping it getting a 10 from me is the fact that it's too open plan with no comfy seating.
Still though, I have a lot of time for this place.
|
went in for first time since changed hands. Seems Tom Woods, Castle Rock and Oakham beers always on which limits the variation now. JHB, Bishops Farewell, Elsie mo, harvest pale, jolly poacher, harvest bitter, bear island, riggwelter, daleside blonde were on. The 5 i had were all spot on.

Each time I visit Nottingham, I am drawn to this place even though it's away from the city centre down by Sneinton Market. Red predominates from the stairs to the chairs and the atmosphere has a social club feel (it was once a chapel) but few clubs aspire to 10 handpumps. Never had a duff pint.
|
There were 8 real ales on and a real cider when I visited last Saturday. It was a bit quiet but it was only 11am. I imagine there would be a great atmosphere here when the place is busy. Recommended.
|
'tis a good job there are so many ales, ciders, etc. coz last time I was in The Moot, John the barman told me to 'stop waving that stick about'

Went in here yesterday, an excellent establishment, more choice of beer, cider and larger than you could wave a stick at, a pleasent afternoon was had by all.
|
This pub has now been taken over by Woods Brewery of Lincs.
|
Brilliant! Family run, absolutely no brewery or pubco ties, hence the great beer range and low prices.

fantastic pub with friendly staff and locals, quiet music, sport of tv (but not too loud) and most importantly the best quality and best range of beer in Nottingham. Prices are second to none (its a free house) and a pint of the regularly stocked and superb Oakham JHB can be had for 1.80 (only just gone up from 1.70 because of beer tax). the quiz on a sunday from 9 is the best, always packed out and most people normally win something out of the various mini games/draws (get there early to get seats). a must for real ale fans.

The MOOT kicks ass, ten hand pumps squirting out nine quality ales, and a cider if thats your kind of thing, good atmosphere and an interesting use of colour on the furniture

A large continental-style beer hall with loads od tables and bare floorboards must be contented with to access the bar at the end of the room that boasts no less than 10 handpumps. Nine ever-changing ales are on offer at ace prices. The beer is in amazing condition and the atmosphere is beer festival-esqe. My first visit comprised of Oakham Cold Turkey 6.1%, Breconshire Ramblers Ruin 4.9%, Freeminer Stay & Drink 4.5%, and Roosters Special 4.3%. The best pub in Nottingham, yes, better than the Vat. (doesn't beat the Vic though, but that's in Beeston and in league of its own).
