Nice to see Mark from the Westbury has taken over this site. Maybe now we have the right person for the job. I've been told there is a big carnival weekend taking place there with 20 dj's. I'm so there. Good luck Mark.

Sigh....
Yet ANOTHER manager has just taken this bar over.
No doubt we'll be subjected to a couple of months of ludicrous 'improvements' while they try to make it their own, only to fail and leave like everone before them has.
Can the owners please log in and explain exactly what they are doing that causes manager after manager to leave within a month or two of starting!?!
The bar itself looks decent and is in a prime location, with the potential to do so much, if only we could have a period where the manager wasnt working their notice and thus actually cared about what they were doing!

Looks like we're getting yet another new manager in the long line that have tried and failed to make this bar succeed. Great to see Michelle is still there though. When will they get their act together and acknowledge that she is the girl for the job!! Just in case anyone is interested she's managed to get the DJ's back and she's got security on the door!! What a girl!! Love the hair by the way!! V hot!!

what a place!! Had a wicked night there last night and it was a wednesday!! Went to the Salusbury first and that was smoky and crowded and took an age to get served. Will efinately be back to the long room!!!!!!!!!

Was there on Saturday night, the girls behind the bar were gorgeous, friendly and fast!!! The music rocked and I got laid (not actually in the bar though!!) Couldn't have wished for a better night, will definately be back there.

A quick note to wish all our customers a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. From all the team at The Longroom

Went into the longroom for breakfast after a huge friday night....... i have never seen this place so busy. Truly amazing Bloody Mary and a fat breakfast and i started to feel human again. Cheers guys.

I was in the longroom on friday with my works xmas doo. Had a fab night, they have some great bar tenders and amazing cocktails. They were really busy but still had time to have a laugh and a joke when the bar was heaving. The shooters they made for us were spot on and the food was great.

this bar seems somehow misplaced in the queens park area. put it anywhere east and people would kill - or at least queue - to get into this warehouse sized, bright, beautifully designed space. recent noticable changes are a shorter, snazzier italo menu, DJ's on selected nights and later opening hours [0:30am]. unchanged are the well made cocktails, pizza specials, friendly staff & reasonable prices.
|
it is less crowded the the salusbury, but it's also soul-less, loud and a barn of a place.
anonymous - 16 Jan 2006 14:25 |
Much better than the Salisbury because it is much less crowded. Main problem with this bar is it is too big and the food takes ages. Nice and cheap to eat though, and the sort of place you can take your parents. We overheard some hoodies talking about how well they did at robbing people here, but I can't see how as it is always so empty! If you live in this part of Queens Park though, where else can you go for a drink in the rain?

As a local living slightly north of Queens Park I was looking for a venue to host a a fun, informal party for 50 people that was easy for most people to get to. The Long Room was perfect - they cordonned off a section just for us, laid on champagne and great platters of food and played Latin music which got the atmopsphere going. The manager was really friendly and helpfull as was the staff and everyone had a great night. Most of the people who lived close by were surprised what a fun place it had become and I had great feedback. Thanks to all at The Long Room for a fabulous evening.

Decided to check this place out in spite of the bad press on this page, since I just moved to quiet QP from busy Clapham. To be honest there isn't an abundance of venues to choose from in QP and I guess I still go out more in other areas of London but locally you can't beat the Longroom as a bar. The thing that struck me most about it is how easily they get a 'trendy' vibe going in an area that really isn't cool, and also how good & reasonably priced their cocktails are [clearly one of the things staff are passionate about - just watch them at work it looks so easy!] Worth checking out. A lot.
|
yep,...bad/slow/sarky service is a factor here but aside from that,..the venue is just fundamentally too big to ever create much of an atmosphere,....even with 40 - 50 people in there it still feels deserted. Needs a total refit i reckon,...its gotta be lacking something if it can't even drag people away from the salusbury and the bad/slow/sarky service there!
|
I don't get it. Why is it still difficult for some people to distinguish between ye olde pubs and exciting style bars [such as this one]. It's that simple - stay away if you don't think this is for you. The Longroom rocks, it's beautifully designed, the staff and management are attentive & creative and their cocktails are to die for. They know what they have to offer but don't aim to please everyone. An attitude I can handle.

As sumone who has frequented this establishment (as The Park, then The Montrose, now the Long Room)for years, and I feel Im in a good position to judge how good it is. In a nutshell: This place has undergone frequent changes of management (around 6-7 times)since becoming Long Room (about 18 mths ago), with the most recent being the worst yet. The weekend DJ's have been stopped and even the 'new ones' werent nearly as good as the older ones (RnB dude on Fris was wicked and the Sat more Funky one was as good too!...the DJ booth now serving as a service area for table service!!!), a pool table is in place, but isnt even (duh!), and the staff are somewhat aloof, while the service is slow (20mins on a weekend isnt unusual!!!). Sure the variety of food is okay, but you pay over the odds for the majority of it. The beer on the other hand is very watered down, fairly flat and again, expensive. The clientelle think theyre better than everyone else, and are very pretentious...spilling over from the Salusbury up the road! To sum up; pretentious, overpriced, poor beer, no DJ's anymore, a permanent 'restaurant area' adds to the pretentiousness of the place, and the staff arent too friendly or effiecient. I agree that its only a bar that serves food and nothing more, yet the higher management at Faucet Inns are responsible for the place slipping dramatically over the last year or so, ending with the current bar management and staff, who are nowhere as competent as any of the previous, and really shouldnt be in the job as theyve a lot to answer for in my book. The ONLY thing in its favour for me is that its just around the corner so very local....yet I now go to West Hampstead and Kilburn instead of the Long Room! Come on Faucett Inns, when are you going to sort this place out and give the PEOPLE what they want in this area instead of this arty-farty, stuck-up, overpriced joint? Thoroughly UNrecommended and will not be seen in there again!
|
walk along salusbury road and you'd never expect to come across this cool place. industrial-style layout, lots of light from the open ceiling in the dining room and a sexy, cherry-red underlit bar laden with curious spirit bottles. the local trendies usually arrive after work, thursday, friday & saturday nights the bar opens late with resident DJ's and their cocktail list is endless. nice quality sharing dishes and mediterranean-style menu. vastly improved under new management, will def go back

Hi All,
Against my better judgement, I went to the LOng Room again ('cos a friend wanted to as it was local). It was waaay too dark...some Desert Storm night vision glases would have been very handy! The worst thing was the service, and Im talking here as someone who's been going to this establishment for over 6 years (Montorse then Long room), and as a past DJ. I went the bar when an oriental barmaid was serving already, but otherwise the bar was empty. People turned up, and served them before me: By the time she got to me it was 8 mins later...for an empty bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I retorted to this, politely pointing out that I had waited 8 mons, she bacame arrogant and sarcastic! From now I will avoid this place like the plague, but especially for New Years night out. Fot 15 quid to get in, its gonna be an hour's wait....thoroughly UNreccomended...EVER! Keith

Hi All, Ive been to this joint lately and in short its gone downhill further, if thats possible. The DJ's arent great, neither is the music, after all 'funky house' may be 'trendy' but it aint everyones cup o' tea...there was a good dj there a while back, every friday (Nik I think he was called) and he was the only good one there EVER in my, and my mates opinions as he played a wicked variety. Bring Him back pleeeae! Anyway besides the 'same same same' music, the service is exceptionally poor, with long waits (yes, still)and a few rude staff....the manager always looks angry, I can only blame the owners for not geting the right people in to manage the place. Some nights, they also call last orders 10 mins early and that aint on. Despite all this, my main issue is that still it tries to be more than it is...simply a bar that serves grub...and even thats over-priced. Not reccommemded, and I wont be there again. Keith

Was at the Long bar on Friday 5th of October. I was invited down by some friends who were DJ'ing that night. The night was distinctly average due to the 30-40 minute wait at the bar to get a drink (this is no exaggeration!), management give yourself an uppercut!. Friendly doorman tried refused to let me back in to the premesis after taking 3 steps outside to see off a friend. Couldn't hear the Dj's anyway as managent would not allow any volume, even with punters queueing up to dance. Will never go back. Laaaaaame.

Just to let you know that there will be a dj playing from 7pm until midnight tonight (friday 5th Nov). Come on down and enjoy some cool funky house music.

Hello. I went to the Long Room this evening and was dismayed at the awful music and atmosphere. The music was fairly loud but BAD, and the lights were dim to try to give the large room an ambience...not successfully I may add. It seems the menu has been cut down even further than when I was there last (2 weeks) as there is now a poor selction of pizza on ofer. Despite it being fairly quiet, I had a good 5 mins wait to be served at the bar, and then only to be served by not-too-happy looking staff. I just had the one quick drink and left, and shant return. Being a local chap, Ive been here before on a number of occasions, but Ive not seen it this sad. I cannot recommend this place to anyone, and I shan't return. A large room exhibiting poor ambience, loud 'chitter chatter' and both poor beer and selection of food doesnt cut it for me!

Hi everyone, I used to go to the long room quite a lot, but since the place has changed so much in the last month, I rarely bother now. The main thing for me and my friends is that there are no dj's anymore, which is a pity. Ive been here a few times in the last week or so, and its generally fairly quiet, and just people sat down chatting loudly, with no atmosphere to talk of, and bad music in the background. It is very pretensious and not worth a visit on weekends anymore, as id rather go elsewhere to enjoy myself, not pay over-the-odds for drinks and poor 'ambience.' Lets have the good days back in there again! I cant see it happening, so until then i'll give it a miss from now on. To be fair though, they do a good pizza, but otherwise the menu is limited. Even a month ago it was better so I can only think that the mamagement has changed again(and it has often this year)...for the worse. This place needs a new lease of life, until then its certainly nothing special

hello, I went to the long room tonight then onto a later place to continue the night...been a long week! Ive been here quite a lot this year too, and can only agree with andy (below)...a quite pretentious atmosphere since the 'new girl' took over, with no usual dj (ie, no live music!)...a great shame as he was good...part of the reason my friends and I went there on Fridays! If this is a regular thing, its a very bad move, and I await what will happen to sat evenings as there was a dj then too? Im disappointed and the only good thing left here now is the pizza. My advice, if u dont want pizza, dont go there, at least not too often. A shame as until the last few weeks, the place was far far more enjoyable, and I wont be going hwere again too soon, f this is the case. I got served by manageress tonight and she was none 2 friendly...probably upset the place was so quiet compared to last friday! I can see many people going elsewhere if this is the way things are going due to the new management...a stark contrast to the previous ones. Go there if u want to try it by all means, but I certainly wont be there 2 often anymore. Bring back the friday dj...he was good! 'Til then, I'll find elsewhere.

With relevance to the below post (30thSept 04), Im skeptical. This is because I know that she was not even in the UK for the last 2 years, so what places did she do 'wonders' for? I have been a regular here, and its predecessor, the montrose, and have now seen the place hit an all-time low. The new manageress has only been in for less than 2 weeks and... 1. She has stopped dj's on weekends...why? Baffles me..this was the main attarction for me and my mates on fridays and sats! 2. The new layout of the furniture only promotes congestion at the bar, when service isnt very quick anyway..this means even longer waits to get served. 3. The place is merely a bar that serves food, nothing more, so why does it try to be more? It is somewhat sterile and pretenscious,...probably a mangers decision to 'raise the standard of the clientelle' I suspect, which is stupid and reflects her 'direction' for the place? 4. The staff do not seem happy, so this doesnt add to a fun and friendly atmosphere. 5. With the new manageress in place for such a short time, and to see things chage this much, I really wonder if the place is doomed. 6. It is generally somewhat akin to a wetherspoon, with low music and loud conversations, but much more expensive! As such, I reliquish my loyalty over the past years here, and will give it very wide berth...not recommended. AH

A new manager has just been appointed who I have known work wonders in other places, so be prepared to see standrards rise. She'll be whipping the place back into shape and I for one will be back in there again.

I really wanted this place to succeed, just to spite the nearby Salusbury (or at least give it a bit of competition), but gave up long ago. It's one of those places doomed to be empty no matter what they try, and they certainly seem to chop and change it often enough. It feels like it closes down once a year only to open again with a different name but the same indifference from the neighbourhood. I think I stopped feeling sorry for it when it got rid of its real ales.
NEILBARRET (below) is doing a tremendous impression of how echoey and shouty people sound in there.

SINCE ECENT CHANGE OF MANAGEMENT, THE ATMOSPHERE SEMS DIFFERENT: STILL OVER-PRICED AND EMPTY BUT OLD DJ WHO PLAYED NICE RNB AND POPULAR STUFF SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY SMEONE WHO PLAYS TO BOOM, BOOM STUFF A TAD TOO LOUD AS OF SAT 3RD JULY. WONT BE GOING THERE AGAIN IN A HURRY UNLESS THEY GO BACK TO THE 'OLER' WAY WHICH WAS A LOT BETTER! SHAME ON YOU FAWCETT INNS! POTENTIALLY A VERY NICE PLACE, BUT AS IT IS, 4 RATING IS BEING GENEROUS...BRING BACK THE MUSIC!
NEILBARRET - 5 Jul 2004 21:34 |
Maybe less a pub and more 'lounge' bar, with besides a decent cocktail list, also great Guinness and a nice German beer on tap. A very friendly place with happy staff. Provides the best food out of all the pubs in the area in large portions at a very reasonable price. On Sundays games are available and I can recommend the roast!
Jo - 30 May 2004 20:47 |
Spacious (maybe too much so - as it always seems empty, even with a good crowd in), so at least you can almost always be guaranteed a table. Good music and range of beers. But pricey and since the pizza oven's been out of action, not the best choice for dining
Cameron Black - 10 May 2004 11:52 |
It's a nicely decorated, spacious and trendy bar (food's good too). But it's impersonal, pretentious, extremely over-priced and frequented by people who are too busy bragging over their jobs, houses, shares etc. to interact with anyone else. And the beer isn't anything special.
M - 22 Apr 2004 10:56 |
This bar has changed names so many times..the food is mediocre but the room is nice.Never really full which means you can always find a table.
Claire - 2 Apr 2004 15:51 |
Big spacious modern bar with great food and wood-fired pizza oven. Doesn't get too packed, in fact sometimes is a little too empty.
