Every railway station needs an old fashioned railway boozer and this place is a classic example of one.
No food whatsoever and a rough joint with dodgy clientele and the odd dog running around.
I do quite like these kind of pubs and you need one like this to allow a two minute sprint for your train!

Normally closed when I visit Salisbury, on the rare occassions it is open it is devoid of punters, looking rather dank and uninviting.
How does the place stay afloat? seems rather a shame given its location near the station, though I suppose few rail travellers are interested in an after journey pint these days?

Agree with wolvesfan and Hodge1, been past this place 3 or 4 times each at a different time and day of the week and everytime it's closed.

Used to serve a great pint of Gibbs Mew Bishops Tipple in the late 80's, I agree with teh comments regarding opening hours, it never seems to open!

This pub has the grumpiest landlord and landlady EVER!!! If you can find it to be open when you pass, and that's a BIG if, see for yourself. The beer is pretty average, move on to Deacon's or the Haunch.

I agree with F_B_B, that it's handy for the station and that's it's best feature. Only one ale on when I went in - Ringwood Best, served luke-warm and lifeless. Service was friendly enough though, so I wouldn't rule it out as a quick stop-off when getting off the train, but I wouldn't want to spend a whole night here.

Ringwood Best Or Ringwood Best, Seating Available In The Beer Garden/Car Park, Handly 4 the station though, 5.5/10

Very sad. This former Strongs of Romsey house once served excellent beer. In its Whitbread days, landlord Doug Hatch kept excellent Romsey Trophy and Brickwood's Best - never a bad pint. Then Gibbs Mew took over with their bland Premium and Wiltshire, and the downhill slope commenced.

At least The Railway is consistent - I last went in there in 1991 and the beer was awful!

must agree tried both real ales both undrinkable shame though nice landlady

very nice landlady, friendly locals this could be a very good pub good location by the station But!!!!! the gents toilets look like they have not been cleaned in months and the beer is not kept too well, if you catch it on a good day after the pipes have been cleaned you do get a good pint but it does not last for long

Wasn't very impressed with this one. Paternalistic and unwelcoming locals, and the beer tasted as I imagine it would have done had it been piped in straight from the urinals with a little meths added. Worth the walk to the town centre to avoid this pub.

The Railway is nothing fancy, just a good old boozer that the owners take pride in. The bedroom we stayed in was clean, and breakfast was just fine. The Railway is convenient walking distance to the town centre of Salisbury, and is about 150 feet to your left as you walk out of the train station, which is very convenient when you have to catch a train out the morning after too many pints of Hopback.
