The City has always been Truro'sbest real ale pub.It has certainly improved recently after going through a difficult time.Alway Betty Stog,Courage and Doom bar usually plus a guest. The beer is always top quality. There is now good pub grub and a Sunday carvery and occasional music sessions. Well worth a visit if you want a decent pint in a traditional pub.

Excellent pub, friendly staff and good beer. My favourite during my brief stay in Truro.

A couple of pints of Skinner's Cornish Knocker and a delicious homemade burger and chips was very much enjoyed, 8/10

Our husbands decided to abandon us to seek out the City Inn for a 'swift half' while we continued shopping - they reappeared two and a half hours later full of praise for the pub. We therefore went for lunch two days later, the food on offer was excellent, beuatifully cooked and of a high quality, we drank wine which was OK but the men got to grips with the local Skinners brew and the more they drank the more fulsome their praise. We will be back next September for more! The City Inn isn't easy to find, the paper in our hotel said it is 150 yards from the shopping centre but it is probably a bit more and is tucked away under the railway viaduct.

Stopped off in Truro on the way back from the Eden Project (AKA Kew Gardens Writ Large) to give the two GBG pubs a try. This was my second of the two after the Wetherspoons (had to work my way up for the hill ascent) and I have to say this place really was a crushing disappointment.
The pub is split into two areas, a nice area set out with ostentatious dining tables and all I can describe as a dark, grotty area for the drinkers away from a small bar area where all the locals were crushed into. The gents were also pretty rancid, what are those brown streaks running down the wall by the sink about?
There were three ales on - Sharps, Courage Best and Skinners Betty Stoggs. I opted for the Betty Stoggs and got a pretty insipid beer for my trouble. Perhaps I should have tried another of the beers to see if was just unlucky given the dislike of the place itself I didn't feel any desire to stay on so left.
GBG or not, I'd struggle to summon up any recommendation really.

Lovely pub a short walk from the centre with a community local feel to it. Good ales and a suntrap of a garden. Always visit when on holiday in the area.

This place is worth finding, it is only a short walk. Skinners beers served beautifully. Betty stogs is to die for. Sharps doom bar and exmoor gold. The menu looked good and the is darts and pool. 8/10

Fanatastic selection of beers seven when I went in Skinners stoggs and knocker, courage best and sharps doom bar with exmoor gold, timothy taylor landlord and black sheepbitter. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent value for money and they do bed and breakfast. Great pub that needs to be sampled. Happy drinking

Top pub. One of the best local pubs I have ever found. Bible (Good beer Guide) regular. Excellant beer from Devon and Cornwall. Never made to feel unwelcome. Well worth the walk up the hill! SUPERB!

A longstanding favourite for real ale drinkers in Truro.A regular in the good beer guide for ever.A bit up and down in recent years but you are always certain to get a good pint of local skinners if all else fails.

I pub I have visited regularly. Feel its been rated a bit unfairly. Always has a great range of beer from devon and cornwall. Try it the food is very good.

Visited 23/10/06. Monday Lunchtime. Pub is a short walk up hill out of town centre. Friendly atmosphere with half a dozen locals around bar, bur a little too smokey for my liking. Sandwiches were good value. Tried the Betty Stoggs and Knocker which both tasted ok but were hazy. The bar man did not give a fresh glass when ordering a new drink-something which annoys me when trying different beers.

A good range of interestaing ales in this country pub near the heart of Truro. well worth the visit

A very 'local' place up a long and steep hill out of the city centre. Does it justify the trek to get here? Not quite. The place isn't too bad but you feel like an outsider. Nice old bar area that is quite cosy.

Average beer in one of those 'local' pubs that have about 3 locals who are regualars! All right for a quiet beer to escape from the crowd in town though

A friendly pub near to the law courts on the Perranporth road out of town. Good atmosphere and friendly too. Good beer and food. Just a bit out of the town centre and therefore missed by those who are visiting Truro and on a walk around. Worth a vist up the hill!!!
