a bit more like a pub than the Cobb arms apparently the pub is 400 years old however the prices are 21st century
several people had food bills of £25, £ 50, £ 60 etc
the Palmers were quite nice and at £ 3-80 for a Bridport ( as in local ) ale should be

A pleasant pubby pub interior with a good atmosphere inside.
I enjoyed the range of Palmers brewery real ales and they were at a decent price considering the location
This for me is the best pub of the three at the cobb end of Lyme.
8/10

The Cobb Arms was full-to-bursting, so we came here. We'd been before. It's a nice enough place with several varieties of Palmer's and pretty decent food. It is a tad expensive, but that is probably the penalty of being right on the Marine Parade. 7/10

A very nice pub had something to eat in the outside area food was very good and a good selection of real ales well worth a visit
|
In spite of its prominent position on the cob, this seems to be quite a locals pub at heart although it obviously does get a good selection of visitors popping in.
Theres a good sized patio area at the front to make the most of the sea views. Once you get in you immediately have to navigate around a pool table in order to get to the bar, which is rather unusual. Once past that, you find yourself in a fairly traditional, carpeted pub with black beams on the ceiling, a darts board and a trophy cabinet. The walls were a mixture of white painted plasterwork, wood panelling and exposed stone walling. Another room is off to the right with unpainted oak beams on the ceiling, mostly exposed stone walling, chunky wooden tables and a large glass frieze of the Duke of Monmouth.
I didnt check out the menu, but noticed several specials listed on a board by the bar with most of the mains being around the 10 - 11 mark. Food doesnt seem to be a major focus here though, and I didnt notice anybody eating on a recent Friday evening visit, although its possible that they had stopped serving by the time we were in there. Music policy seemed to be predominantly 80s, and there was a good selection of locals in enjoying a pint.
Beers on tap were all from Palmers with their Dorset Gold, Copper Ale, Best Bitter and 200. Ciders were Thatchers Gold and Old Rascal.

Visited in Aug, nice atmosphere especially the big cheer that went up as Jess Ennis crossed the finish line. Live music is a regular feature. Expected the place to be packed out on a Sat evening but found we (Family of 5) had choice of tables. Good prompt service, Palmers is just that little bit better in here compared to Cobb Arms but food is slightly more expensive. Food arrived surprisingly quickly and was very good. All in all a good experience.

Visited the evening of St Patric day, this year. Had the Guinness of course, and Palmers PA. By Stout & About Irish Posts reckoning it was somewhere between Nothing to Stout About Stout of the Ordinary. The Palmers a bit lack lustre too.
However, the food was another issue. Truly brilliant and outstanding was the starter Fish Soup somewhere between Cullen Skink and Algarvean Pez Soup. So thick it was hard to find the liquor, and the taste was truly masterpiece.
The guys had various other starters, all were very tasty and satisfying. For the main, the 8oz rump steak, and a bargain 16oz for an extra two quid. Came with all the trimmings and was totally filling after that brilliant soup. Gut buster.!!
Our Doc (Cheese expert) had even more cheese than he expected, and the only real disappointment that side of the table - was that they had run out of sticky toffee pudding.
Excellent service, and friendly, helpful staff. Feasted, fed, and full up. Definitely go for the food again, well stay longer and drink more if you
And yes, she does have a nice bumha ha

Visited yesterday lunchtime, sun was out so the pub was busy, beer quality very good but #3.50 a pint it was bloody expensive. Carpet has been replaced, but pool table still there taking up too much room, however I'll forgive then that as on this occasion the 2 birds playing pool had lovely arses.....
|
Suffers from its location and absolutely heaving in summer but what do you expect just feet from the beach? Ale is usually good and the food gets served surprisingly quickly.
|
Heaving when I visited one lunchtime last week, but I managed to find a corner to sit in with my superbly kept pint of Palmers Copper ale. Didn't eat here as it was too busy, seemed to be a bit in need of a refurb, the carpet in the back bar was so worn as to be nearly non existant. That said friendly and with plenty of staff, and would definately visit it again.

Been going here for many years as an out-of main season visitor to Lyme. The Palmers ales served here I rate as the best of their tied houses in Lyme, and very consistent. Present landlords have made some small scale changes for the better. I can't see believe the toilets were that bad - they were upgraded not long ago, perhaps just too many people coming in from the beach. Food good value too.
|
As a bloke i'm not really too bothered about where i pee but if you need to go whilst in The Standard i would suggest you use the public toilets a few doors down as they smell alot better than the gents in the standard. Awful - makes you think what the kitchen must be like ....!!!
|
This summer the Standard served the best pint in Lyme, the back garden backs on to the beach.Palmers is actually rather good this year!
|
i have a soft spot for this pub, it suffers from too many tourists in summer ( like me !) it does a good job real ale decent food quickly served , and on the beach.
|
Nice little pub, beers well kept (although limited range on offer), OK normal pub grub, staff friendly. I agree with GingerGeorge, it would make a nice local.

Lovely pub with good food, friendly staff and amazing views, Definately a place to while away a few hours!
|
amazing pub! Great food, Nice staff, nice veiws, great drinks! shame about some snotty customers! full of friendly & genuine people:)
|
Very disapointing had to wait over an hour for what we had thought was going to be fresh food, then it was warm not hot The fish would be an insult to tescos value meals and staff not really interested. We went in at 1.50pm so shouln't have been that busy.
|
Really good pub food with a specials board offering fish and seafood. Make sure you book a table if there's a party of you as space is limited. The beer was very good too.

A real pub with real ales. Location perfect overlooking the bay. This could quite easily be my local!
|
Always make a detour to Lyme to eat here.
Great food, great location. WE ALL need to encourage this kid of stuff - just 'cos you are at the seaside, doesn't mean you can find local seafood!
Love the 'Open All Hours' till.
Keep it up.

Probably the best of the pubs we visited on a recent short stay. Good food, not overly expensive. Nice walled courtyard area which catches the sun, just right for enjoying a pint of prawns with crusty bread and a bottle of Chardonnay. Appeared to be standard real ales for the area, Dry Blackthorn cider (which is far easier to come by down here than at home) and Thatchers as well. Very pleasant experience during a jolly pleasnt weekend.

I thought it was ok really!
|
Great food at reasonable prices.
The Palmers 200 beer was the best I've tasted for years !!
|
Overpriced and complacent seaside pub. The Harbour next door, though looking like you'd need to remortgage your house for a meal, was much better value in the beer department.
|
can't quite believe we ended up in here...I had heard it was quite popular with the gay community so thought i'd give it a whirl with camp clive and some other mates - boy, were we out of our league here! .Eager to bend over backwards for you but sadly not our cup of earl grey. In fairness we didn't stop to eat as Geoff had just split up with his boyfriend of ten years and every time he looked at the sausage menu he collapsed into an uncontrollable heap, so we couldn't really rate the food but hardly anyone spoke and when they did it tended to be in short bursts that made no sense what so ever, a kind of 'oohh arh' type of affair ( bit devon for us ). Staff on the whole were quite friendly and curtious ( or maybe curious )and camp clive was well made up at being called 'Babe' everytime he ordered another taboo slammer with flashing ice cubes...We may go back but if you bat for the other side like us then the only place to go in Lyme Regis is the Cobb Arms just yards further up the road.
|
Pub itself looks great and had a decent atmosphere, but real ale at 2 80 a pint, come off it.
|
Run by a gobby balding ex car salesmen - the beer (bitter) is truly dreadful - and the lager is oddly flat. Food is mostly frozen.
Depressing place with most patrons looking suspiciously related !!!
|
Surprisingly quiet on Saturday night. Traditional pub, maybe it gets better in the summer!
|
I can report that the Palmer's was lovely on Sunday. Decent food, too.
|
You're better off in West Bay...

Old style pub situated on the beach in small sea-side town. During the summer its always packed but its during the cold winter nights when you can play pool or eat (very) good food by a roaring fire that it really captures the imagination. Love It! Bar Staff are young (for the most part)and friendly and the beer's not bad (no decent bitter tho)
