Certainly not the pub it once was.

It is a good pub, but not the excellent pub it once was.
It still sells a well-kept Old Rosie cider, but no longer offers mead or fruit wines.
It now plays canned music and no longer provides Cheri's fish and chips and filled giant Yorkshire puds.
This is a good pub but to be top in the Bite rated pubs is giving it far too much credit, in my opinion there a far better pubs across Britain and if I'm totally honest this pub might not even be the number one in Whitby which I'd give to the little angel.

We arrived in Whitby for a couple of hours on our way to Teeside. Lunch to be had and the wife wanted a wander around town so out of the 3 pubs I wanted tick I made a decision to make the Station Inn the one pub I visited.
As the name suggests its opposite the station and has an assortment of railway artifacts on the walls.
8 cask ales on, a good and varied choice I plumped for a half of Whitby Breweries Platform 3 @ 3.6%. There's also real cider in Weston's and there are also fruit wines available.
Not many people in during our afternoon visit bit it's obviously a popular pub and is worthy of another visit when I came back to do the other 2 I missed

Best of the Whitby pubs I visited on a warm July day. Had a pint of Thwaites something or other, which was nice enough. I like UK beer but being a thick Aussie can only tell the difference between brown flat & yellow fizzy, and I prefer the brown. Publican was friendly. Highlight for me was a spirited conversation with another drinker, a fully cassocked Catholic priest. We didn't have time to solve all the world's problems but we covered a few.
Good range of beers including Platform 3 from local Whitby Brewery
Still THE place to go in Whitby for ale choice.
nothink sbeshial but it was had four me to get dink from bar becorse im handy cap in welchair
Great little pub who had a good selection of craven ales (mid Sept) - Copper Dragon and Timmy Taylors were the two I tried... top marks!
Cracking town centre pub, near the waterfront. Music on at the weekends. 4 cask ales, Whitby Whaler from a local micro brewery, Tim Taylor Golden Ale were ny choices for the evening. Once you're settled you won't want to leave. I'll say it again crackin' pub
A pub that's always on my list when I visit Whitby - decent ale selection. Don't get the negative comments about pricing - 3.05 for the cheapest beer isn't expensive when you're paying 3.40 at The Black Horse...
Friendly pub with a wide selection of real ale. We had the Ossett Silver King, which was well kept. No food.
Not the cheapeast, but I've been in three/ four times and beers and general atmosphere are always first class. A good selection of ales.
you can not fault the station for the quality and choice of beer one small gripe though all beers were over 3 a pint. but i tasted the best camerons strongarm ive ever had.
As with the Golden Lion my first visit was during the regatta and it was full of pisxed up geordies.... all well behaved though !!
called in when the crowds had gone and what a cracking real ale pub this is... those CAMRA awards are well deserved. TT Golden, Copper Draggon, Doom Bar, Otley beers to name a few... and all really kept well. Didnt see any food as I was a night visitor.
There was music on the Wed and a quiz on the Thurs.... overall this pub is the best in Whitby at the moment and long may it continue.... !! the landlord was young, but friendly and hard working and really felt proud of what he had achieved....
Usual good selection of real ales. Fruit wine selection deserves a mention as well. Family room a plus. Prices of ale prominently displayed.
Terrific pub near the station - if only they were all like that. Well kept ale, welcoming to children and dogs, a mixture of locals and tourist. A great pub.
The Station Inn has just been voted Cleveland CAMRA Pub of the Year.
Great pub- choice of ales, real fires, great staff, choice of other drinks, music audible but not loud.
Great pub with a large choice of ales. Wish i could have spent more time there.
Listen folks; this is the best pub in Whitby haven't been been for a month!! but missing it already - can't wait to get back and select the great beers!! + good music!
As a rule pubs found directly outside railway stations (in towns that is) are generally rather mediocre. This is one of the exceptions to that rule. Atmosphere and staff friendly, family room for kids, 8 very well kept ales on handpump from many different regions, plus handpump cider. Didn't note much in the way of food (except snacks) but could well have missed it. Doesn't matter - supermarket across the road sells very nice sandwiches and cakes and there are fish & chip shops and a branch of Subway very close by. Would recommend this place to anyone.
Very nice pub, wide range of ales on, something like 8. As I recall Doom Bar, TT Golden Best, Black Dog Abbey, Camerons Strongarm, Adnams Bitter. Black Dog the only microbrewery, so I plumped for that. Sadly it wasn't at its best at all.
The Station Inn has just been named Cleveland Camra Spring Pub of the Season 2010. 8 cask ales all kept in great condition. A first class pub.
Love this pub on a Friday night and I disagree about the live music- thats what keeps us going back and although not much room the atmosphere is great and quality of bands are excellent. The Old Rosie Cider is rather good as well!
Definitely the best pub in Whitby as far as I am concerned. A very good selection of well kept beers.
We visited several times over a long weekend. 11 out of 10
Brilliant pub. We went there every day/night of our holiday in Whitby. Very friendly and excellent barstaff who remembered our order the second time we went in there! We felt like locals by the time we left and even entered the Christmas Draw!
Possibly the only pub in this town I would consider crossing the road for. Possibly. The line up of beers was much the same as when archivist visited in July, with the addition of daleside blonde instead of the golden pippin (a blessing). We managed to sample most of them. All bar one were good, but nothing to write home about. I'd like there to be a bit more variety in beers and style. I would suggest giving the live music a miss, but the pub quiz is worth giving a go.
The Station Inn has everything you need for a good day out, beer is first class and loved the small room at the front, had a couple of pints of real ale as the pub is called the Station it is very close to getting back on the train, I suggest you try this place out. Looks very much like a local, everyone seemed to know each other and very friendly.
In a lovely town with a lot of nice pubs - both often rather ruined by the obnoxiousness of the majority of visitors (is there a factory where they produce shaven-headed, track-suited or vest-and-shorted tattooed villains and their grossly corpulent, scraped-haired, fag-ash-lil molls? In Middlesbrough perhaps?), the Station is a welcome oasis of relative peace (though its no morgue), good beer, atmospheric decor and pleasant service. Nice old building, tastefully updates with separate lounge bar and family room. Local Black Dog ale very well kept. A seriously good pub and handy for the station (duh!) and buses too.
I don't need to describe the place as there are lots of photos on the profile. After another few visits to this place my score has risen. The customer service and friendly nature of all the staff is worth special mention. A good clientele that were also friendly.
Drinks wise - first of all my wife wants to mention the tea - choice and a good pot! now for the less important beer. * handpulls; Adnams bitter, Copper Dragon Challenger IPA and Golden Pippin, T Taylor Best, Everads Tiger, Sharpe's Doombar (very nice) and Black Dog Whitby Abbey. The beers were well kept. Excellent
Excellent pub with first class beers. The Copper Dragon IPA was spot on as was the Black Sheep Bitter.

Excellent pint of Spitfire very friendly pub easy off the train there it is well worth a visit.
A pleasant multi-roomed pub with a good selection of real ales and friendly service. Lots of railway memorabilia on the walls, will definately visit again
Superb pub, good selection of real ales in good condition, friendly bar maid, good atmosphere, really enjoyed this pub.
My previous review was too brief! The beer is excellent, that goes without saying. But the building is interesting, full of railway memorabilia. Stayed for the regular pub quiz on Wednesday, and as this was the day before Halloween, all the questions had a supernatural theme. It was good fun and the crowd seemed to have a good time too. A very lovely pub.
This pub is brilliant! Good beer and friendly bar staff. I loved it! A well deserved good reputation.
Vastly improved since the new owners took over. Always busy, fun crowd.

Echo comments made by others, this pub has an excellent, and wide ranging, selection of beers. In fact we enjoyed it so much, we went back again next evening, when we were bemused to see half the clientele dressed as pirates.
great night every body was so friendly compared to the old guard much brighter and a decent pint which always helps
A gem in the centre of town, good food, good beer, good experience. Excellent ales top marks
Good to see the new management have kept on stocking real cider, but I was very sorry to find that thay have introduced constant "music". As the Tap and spile this was on of the few pubs in the area which did not plague customers with noise.
Now under new management, the Tap and Spile in Whitby is now back to friendly, quality pub it once was. The cask ales are of a very high standard with a good range on offer. There is now a friendly welcome to all customers and the beer is a pleasure to drink.
Please note that this pub is now under new management. At the moment it is being redecorated but is still open. Real ales are still served. Had a great pint of Black Dog's Abbey Ale when I was in there. New people running the place were very freindly.
