A great addition to the real ale scene in Hebden Bridge. Calan's is one of the new breed of 'micro pubs', small, but serving quality real ales from a cooled cabinet behind the bar. The 5 hand pulled beers are almost always from small independent breweries, often local. Very friendly, and a good mix of locals and visitors. Highly recommended.

Situated in the heart of historic Heysham Village, the Royal has improved dramatically since the new landlord took over in December 2014. The pub itself is very old, parts dating from the 17th century, and has low beams and antique furniture. On our visit the beer was in excellent condition (Two beers from York Brewery, and one apiece from Black Sheep, and Oakham, and there's a discount for CAMRA members) and the food stunning. There's a special lunchtime menu during the week at £6, which includes traditional fish and chips.
The pub has a massive car park and gardens and terraces. If you're coming by public transport, the number 4 bus from Lancaster (calling at Morecambe) takes you right into the centre of the village, about 100 yards away from the pub.
Highly recommended.

Haigy's, Manningham
Sadly, Haigys is now closed. Another great Bradford pub bites the dust.
