A week walking in the Peak District - on the Inn Way - so I've been to quite a few.
This served the pint of the week - a perfect Theakstons Best Bitter.
The pub was well suited for the tourists, plenty of room for dining and drinking.

We visited Saturday afternoon in late November and I have to say I thought pub was very cosy... Roaring fire, Christmas decorations all up and very lively. 4 real ales, Martsons New World pale ale, English pale ale, Wychwood Piledriver and Adnams Bitter. Food was also excellent, and staff friendly. I haven't been in he other pubs, but all looked good. We also visited Peak Cavern which was excellent.

Not as cosy as the Cheshire Cheese next door and fewer ales on offer but a better option if you've got muddy boots on. Unfortunately, like the Cheshire Cheese, the staff are frosty and serve short pints.

Limited choice of beers - only two available when I was there. But they were in good condition. Live music on a Saturday night led to a lively atmosphere. Plenty of locals and visitors in.

Good pub - beer appears to be a from a list but when that list includes doom bar and landlord and they are kept well you are not too bothered. Friendly service from a 'geordie/mackem?' lass and a bunch of friendly regulars elevates this place above the other pubs in castleton. Nice outdoor area too.

We took this pub over in July last year and have worked hard to improve standards (decor, produce and service included!) - just a note that there is no longer a big screen or Sky TV at The Peaks Inn (in fact the closest place with Sky would probably be either Bradwell or Hathersage for any sports fans heading to the Valley!)
Our Quiz is still going strong and held every Thursday night, and we continue to serve food throughout the day (12-7 Sun-Thu / 12-9 Fri-Sat), later midweek food serving times apply during holiday periods and throughout the summer.
The Peaks is also now home to numerous live music events with gigs advertised throughout the year, updated both on our website, in local newspapers and advertised internally on A Boards.

Visited on 16 11 2010 in the morning and again at lunchtime. Two real ales - Black Sheep and Kelham Island Easy Rider; both beautiful. Had food, which was excellent and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Couldn't ask for better and would recommend this pub to anyone. Incidentally, my friend who was driving said the coffee was great too!

We visited this pub last Thursday lunchtime. The only real ale on was black sheep, but it was perfectly drinkable. We ordered food for 4 people and it was served in good time and was absolutely fine. Most of the other pubs in Castleton looked 'posher' than this one, but as we had children with us and had been out walking we wanted somewhere down to earth. Staff were also very friendly and produced strwas for the children's drinks etc. As a relaxing family pub this place fits the bill very well.

Enjoyed a few pints of Easyrider and ordered some food - after waiting AN HOUR the barman came to tell us they didn't have what we ordered! As they also didn't have our second choice we asked for our money back went down the road to the bullshead where we were served quickly!

DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB !!! When I complained that my meal didnt turn up and everyone who actually did get a meal the food was awful (too many complaints to list) the landlady rudely said "well nobody else has complained!" VERY strange and VERY VERY VERY RUDE staff. The landlady needs to take her staff and herself on a customer relations course in manners, so much for the customer is always right!!! Go to The Castle , its a much more inviting atmosphere!

I was enticed into this pub by the Cask Marque sign - usually a good bet - but not this time. The only REAL beer on the pumps was Black Sheep but this was off. Plenty of keg rubbish and "cocktails" though. I didn't complain as the bar staff looked as if they had only ever drunk vodka kiddie pop mixers and so would not know a well kept beer from poison. A revamped tourist trap - avoid at all costs.

Ignore previous post of mine - posted it under the wrong pub! The Peaks Inn is, indeed, open, but the food is awful and the beer is non-existent.

Worth pointing out even more that it's actually not closed...
Absolutely FANTASTIC food. Beer OK, but only a choice of two Robinson's beers so nothing to write home about.

Popped my head in on Sunday and felt much the same as the previous reviewer. Only one real ale on - Black Sheep Ale. Sounds like things have changed there alot recently. I noticed it was up for sale.

I did not enjoy my visit to this pub at all. The beer was flat and lifeless, the staff were not at all welcoming or friendly and there was a distinct lack of atmosphere throughout the establishment. I am not suprised to see it is up for sale - I will certainly not be returning in the near future.

i would like to say that steve and karry made me and my fiance feel like part of a family.it was my fiances first time to castleton and because of their hospitality and the marvelous pub it made our short stay there perfect.i have been visiting edale and the surrounding area for over 30 years now and love the area.
i would also like to add that we were there on and around the 17th of august the same time as the gentleman complaining in this site about kids etc.this is not a true statement.that night was,we both agreed,the best ever.its a family pub where dogs and children are welcome.there must have only been ten to fifteen people in the pub that night and it was warm and cosy the atmosphere was wonderful for our last night.The peaks inn hotel is definately the best for your visit to the peaks.thanks steve and karry see you next year.xx

My brother and I holidayed in the Peak District in April 2007, staying in Castleton, and this was our favourite pub. The landlord and staff are all very friendly and make all their visitors feel very welcome. The food is good, with a large variety of veggie dishes (always a plus point for me) and there is a weekly quiz, which the landlord runs. This is the locals' 'local' from what I can see. We went numerous times during our holiday, will definitely make return visits if we go back to Castleton and would recommend it to anyone.

Good pint of black sheep. The thing that put me off this place was the barmaid had her kids in the pub with her mother in tow as well. The kids were totally out of control and running round the place. At one point they even stood staring at us whike we were on the quiz machine. Parents are so irresponsible these days. Will not visit again

the key to a great pub is a great pint! the anticipation was huge - i'd just done Kinder Scout on Boxing Day in the fog - they had 'Black Sheep' I was very happy.
It was the worst pint of Black Sheep I've ever been served, flat and lifeless bordering on warm. Oh Dear!

A welcoming dog friendly (not many about) pub with real beers and great value belly buster menu. Just what you need after a strenuous hike up & down them thar hills. There's only one problem ... at some point you have to leave!

Its very good i,m not just saying tha because i work there i think it must be one of the best ran pups in derbyshire the accomodation is lovley and the food is great and very cheap all staff are very welcoming and are willing to welcome you in every way.
Situated in the heart of castleton this pup is livley when you want it to be and quite when you dont, the peaks inn welcoms children aswell as dogs has a smoking half and a non smoking half too.

Recently refurbished; any poor sole that managed to stumble across the place six months ago will be very surprised on re-visiting the pub - The transformation is truly astonishing. Run by a delightful couple (Karry and Steve) you are sure to be greeted by friendly staff and an extensive menu for all hungry bellies!
